I just don't understand JBB's approach with this, when Stamkos was ready and willing to sign a team friendly deal a year ago. Instead JBB paints himself into a corner and likely has to move others out to keep him. If Stamkos walks I'd hope Vinik soon sends JBB packing too.

Tbh, I don't know why they're even negotiating at this point. If I were Stammers agent, I'd put an end to any talks until JBB gets serious and makes a trade. If there's no plans to shed major salary on the Lightnings side, then there is no reason to speak further.

Kinda simple. Stamkos is probably happy to take a friendly deal and help the team out. There's no reason to even discuss an insulting one.

I honestly think if they offered stamkos 6.5 million per season for 3 years stammer would sign it

Got to be really consistent with 100+ pts a season and utility. Centers are always more expensive in the market lol.
...It's UFA. Double digits is the starting point. Only way he comes in under 10 is if he stays in Florida and gives them a massive discount.

I think he's getting pretty close to 12 on the open market.

The question with him is: was this just the beginning (his breakout as a 50+ sniper) or his peak and crash? Either way good timing for him, the guy is getting paid big time by some team for sure.

Whoever pays 10+M x 3+ years for a 34 y/o Stamkos should never be an NHL GM ever again.

This take won't be popular, but if Stamkos doesn't want to take a 5.5M AAV deal with us, so be it. We can't tie high sum of cap space to a 34 y/o player that has been in a steady decline for years in term of 5v5 play and is overall a net negative when on the ice at even strength. These kind of contracts paid for what a player did for a franchise instead of what the can still do are what sunk the Blackhawks after 2015.
Also, powerplay specialists are the easiest to replace IMO, especially when the PP is run by a wizard that goes by the name of Kuch.

I wonder if Hedman will sign if JBB lets Stamkos walk…I have a feeling he won’t.

JFBB lowballing the f*** out of someone so he can turn around and sign a 36 year old 4th liner in free agency instead

Yep JBB thinks two Conor shearys are better then one Stamkos lol 😂

Imma lose it if Nashville signs Stamkos
Took all of JBB picks for Jeannot and Mac and there GM puts JBB back in cap hell and Stamkos walks to Nashville lol 😂

I wonder what number he'll wear next season since Tavares already has 91.
