Is RA ever coming back to Spittin Chiclets?

I forgot where else I'd seen that guy other than a bit part on Shoresy, but those post-Cup clips refreshed my memory.

Goddamn, that was embarrassing for him.

Whitney played 4 seasons for the Oilers . Why would anyone give him crap for cheering for his old team (who he hasn’t remotely tried to hide that he’s cheered for for years)? Not to mention that the Oilers had 3 of his old teammates

He's a bit of a bandwagon though, used to be pro Pens until they sucked. Now that Pittsburgh is old news, he changed allegiances.

The problem with RA is he doubled down after the finals fiasco. Basically saying on a podcast with Portnoy (aka his boss) that he did nothing wrong and he wasn't sorry for anything.

This was guy who not only was drunk off his ass as a credentialed media member at the finals, but was wearing a freaking diamond choker. Total embarrassment.

I personally don't think they'll be bringing him back. He can still get some financial gain out of it via ownership but he brings nothing to the show and burned a lot of bridges with his antics in June.
he ruined the sanctity of barstool sports

I recall that interview. Wayne, ever the gentleman, just downplayed it. But it was a classic RA moment. Biz and Whit never let him forget his moment of stupidity.
Hes always doing dumb/cringey stuff with the players. I cant remember the episode, it was a while ago. RA crashed the cup party in the room one year and one of the guys who won that year was on and RA said something to the effect of "I'm not sure if you remember talking to me". Asshole lol. You'd think being around those guys on a daily basis he'd stop being such a fanboy.

RA was drunk one night and asked Wayne Gretzky if he thought that Adam Oates was a better passer. Wayne went home.
Was surprised that it took this long in the thread for someone to mention that.

Yeah this pretty much optimized RA’s substance fueled “hot takes”. What’s more he constantly defended his opinion on this too about Oates being better.

What a bum.

Literally zero accountability from a man in his 40s. I guess there's a reason why he was a janitor before falling upwards into hosting a podcasts with a former NHL'er. Guy is a boozehound and acts like child.

No clue what you do for work but I'm gonna go out on a limb and say janitor is a more honourable and a more important job.

whole thing made me realize how insecure hockey players are hahah

guy rooted for a historic comeback and it pissed made them that mad that they couldn’t even take it in stride. Sad.
It wasn’t even that. He was only going for the oiler because he wanted in that woman who flashed her tits pants. The podcast paid for her to come to Florida and RA was all over her and wouldn’t leave her alone. It was sad to watch it has it happened. I’m not sure he ever cared about the oilers.

Also with biz on the TNT broadcasts last year you could see him getting annoyed with RAs behaviour. Even though biz had no issues acting like that until his prime time gig. RA is just non hockey player friend who got left in the dust because he didn’t realize it was time to clean up and put a suit on and kept trying relive his college days long after the fact.

idk if that’s true or not but either way hockey people need to realize banter is banter and be good natured

'I don't know anything about you but let me just make an assumption anyway because you insulted an internet personality!'

he insulted janitors in general and i tend to like them, couldn’t care less about a barstool guy

He didn't really insult janitors, he said RA went from being a janitor to hosting a popular broadcast and hanging out with hockey players and having much more attention, which is a big career jump for someone who is clearly still pretty unprofessional. You're the one that brought up honour and importance. In the grand scheme of things janitors are more important than hockey podcasters - he was just implying that the podcast job is more desirable and easier in terms of pay, ease etc.

He truly embarrassed himself in Florida. Like he embarrassed himself as a person and a credentialed media member. It was just banter.

I have no love for podcast. I was just consuming as much media about the finals as I could because the oilers where in the finals and I watched this live. He was parading her around boxes in the arenas, party’s and all over town. He was a sleeve bag over her and she wasn’t all that classy to begin with.

He got divorced and went off the rails even worse than he had in the past.

Some examples of him being a mess after Game 7:

I think he had also done shrooms that night and slept on the beach afterwards? And he bragged about some of this on the podcast. So yeah, he became a bit of an embarrassment and I think the other 2 want to try and act more professional going forward. From what I've seen RA doesn't really want to change.

Kinda see it like this… Imagine working your butt off in your teens and early 20s while your peers party away, finally making it, getting a contract for millions of dollars, having success and living a busy life. Do you want to spend the little free time you have with people you do not enjoy being around? Like other people at the top of their profession these are serious, driven people (not saying they don’t have a sense of humor) that don’t want to deal with people like RA, much less so when RA is twice their age.

TLDR- I think his antics hurt the shows ability to get on current players who do not want to be associated with the shenanigans and spend an hour or more with RA.

(Biz also acts like a moron too much but toes the line and is much more likeable)

I guess that's the thing. Spittin Chiclets (Barstool in general really) claim to be the 'modern' journalists in the sense that are less traditional and rigid than the usual hockey media, but then seem to think they are immune to criticism and can do and say whatever they want when the traditional hockey media would get the same criticism.

It's hard to demand respect from players, management etc. as credible journalists when you're doing the shit that RA did, IMO anyway.

I agree with the sentiment that it's probably the best if it's just Biz, Whit and Yandz moving forwards but I hope RA is doing alright and lands on his feet.

I always felt bad for him because he seemed to get absolutely bullied by both Whit and Biz at certain points. I get it, some of it is just guys being guys but they sometimes took it further and you could really tell it got to RA. He's a dirty dog so it might be called for

There’s always a line. The podcast guys showed themselves to be nothing more than podcast guys. Even biz is making the jump to national, credible media and you can’t have guys like RA around doing what he did and expect to be taken seriously.

Bissonette and Whitney are very clear they are not journalists at all. they have needled RA about this in the past who thinks he is a journo.

Which plays into his unlikeability. He somehow has the biggest ego of the three, least amount of self deprecation, despite proving very little before they started the show or during the time the show was on. He lucked into this and seems to have zero gratitude or self awareness.

Yeah I agree. I wouldn't consider RA a journalist either but he clearly thought he had that kind of influence and deserved the opportunity to interview players immediately after winning the Cup even though he was hammered.

The only podcast I tend to listen to all the way through is 32 Thoughts but I'll listen to some of Spittin Chiclets and/or watch some of the clips. It's much better with Yandle.

Hopefully never. The pod has greatly improved since he went on hiatus.

I used to defend his 'worth' to the podcast as the guy who did a decent job steering the ship to cover all the different topics/segments during the podcast, but seeing how well Whit has managed it lately, I greatly overestimated how difficult that is.

I imagine he does come back at some point, but I really doubt he's changed much at all. His social media presence hasn't changed a bit, still seems like an old angry man with a big ego who can't admit when he's wrong.
