Is Ovi NHL's Ronaldo?

No truer words could be spoken!

This guy is the more naturally gifted Ronaldo, and also the better player, when all is said and done, for sure.

He played like he was a bulldozer with a lot of skill when young, so that actually bears quite some resemblance to young Ovi.
Yeah no. Fat Ronaldo was the more fun player to watch for sure, but CR7 is the better player , his accomplishments speak for themselves

Brazilian Ronaldo was more naturally talented player, however he wasn't great professional and was injury prone as f**k.

While Cristiano was a model professional obsessed with his fitness & improving himself. And avoided injuries through out his whole career.

Is Ovi NHL's Ronaldo? Many people won't like this cross sports comparison but I will try

Obivously Ronaldo is greater in his own sport as he arguibly the GOAT or close 2'd behind only Messi. While Ovi is barely a Top 10 NHL player ever but there are a lot in common between the two.

- They are both (left) wingers who LOVE to score goals
- Both had a breakthrough season in 2007/08 season
- Both have aged gracefully and still scoring goals. Ronaldo in Saudi and Ovi in NHL (The best hockey league by far) in 2025

Ovi don't dive ......

Meh. Every other Russian player in the league has managed to stay out of politics in the public sphere. Ovi has chosen not to.

Hes by far the most famous Russian athlete in the world. Thus a great propaganda tool for the Russian Federation. Basically impossible for him to stay to of politics if he wants his family to be safe.

Like all of us, Ovi can be a dick at times, but in general is a pretty likeable superstar.

Ronaldo on the other hand was a dick, is a dick, and will always be a dick.

Goal hanging prima donna. Nice statue model though.

I agree. But my point is that we shouldn't let him be used as a propaganda tool. The whole gr8 chase thing leaves me very uneasy.

Nah. A big part of Ronaldo's schtic is that he's one of the best looking men alive and he's elite af.

In before Crosby is called Messi

Crosby doesn't play like Messi at all... McDavid also plays kinda different than Messi (though more simmilat than Crosby. In fact McDavid would be good Maradona comparisson, while Crosby... IDK, Zidane or Mordic probably). Wayne Gretzky was probably closest to Messi both playing-style, and achievements-wise alike.

Ronaldo (CR7) plays kinda like football/soccer equivalent of Ovechkin, but was way more accomplished.

BTW- I seen some first Ronaldo (R9)/Lindros comparisson- maybe greatest combination of skills and physicality ever- and all f***ed up by injuries- they even played in simmilar times, lol.

This seems to be pretty regional to me. In Finland CR7 has lots of fans (especially teenage fanboys to be fair), but I wouldn't exactly call Ovechkin a "likeable" player here. At least in Finland I struggle to find people who like him anymore, and I know a lot of local hockey fans. Many I've talked to hate his guts. And no, it's not about pure nationality, as players like Bobrovsky, Panarin etc. have plenty of fans here and don't get the "Ovi treatment". And you know the reason.

(Oh, and Selänne is more controversial than ever. As is Gretzky. I wish we could all still celebrate legends like this together just like we used to do. But alas, being very open about supporting controversial politics will generate tensions.)

There's only one real Ronaldo

Cristiano Ronaldo is a genetic freak. Ronaldo is arguably the best soccer player of all time and to me he is. Absolutely insane tools, height, speed, shot and a complete utility player. No one is looking for Messi in the box.

I love Ovechkin and I’d be comfortable to saying he’s probably one of the best to ever lace them in the NHL however I have to also acknowledge the fact that Ronaldo is the goat in the most competitive and easy to access sport of all time.

There’s probably a kid in Brazil right now who can outclass Gretzky that has never even heard of the NHL
