Is Ovi NHL's Ronaldo? Many people won't like this cross sports comparison but I will try

Obivously Ronaldo is greater in his own sport as he arguibly the GOAT or close 2'd behind only Messi. While Ovi is barely a Top 10 NHL player ever but there are a lot in common between the two.

- They are both (left) wingers who LOVE to score goals
- Both had a breakthrough season in 2007/08 season
- Both have aged gracefully and still scoring goals. Ronaldo in Saudi and Ovi in NHL (The best hockey league by far) in 2025

The Saudi Pro League is ranked as the 16th toughest league in the world. Put Cristiano Ronaldo in the English Premier League and see how he does at 40 yrs old. Hint, he would be mediocre at best. Then put Ovi in the 16th toughest hockey league in the world and watch him score 5+ goals a game. What Ovi is doing at 39 is more impressive than Ronaldo's exploits in a joke league that only exists for sports-washing purposes.

Aside from that, Ovi is pure class and not a narcissistic shit person. Odd to compare such different athletes and people.

No. Ovy is the NHL’s Rocket Richard. Crosby is the NHL’s Jean Beliveau.

Ronaldo is anothe tier of Athlete. its about 1 640 000 hockey players world wide and 260 million soccer players world wide. And to end up in Real Madrid the biggest club in soccer world wide, spend his career there being the all time scorer for club and country (all countries) Winning the most champions league in history, among other players within his club , scored the most goals in the history of the sport that the likelyhood of becoming pro is about 180 times harder than becoming a pro NHL player due to the competition. Look at sweden , we got like 100 players in NHL we got 1 Zlatan, soccer being our main sport. He also have the record for most goals in Champions league knockout stage and most goal in a champion league campaign and most goals in champions leagues history, and the most goals in champions league finals.

I get what you mean with this comparison but they should not brethe the same air and this is a response to what ovie would do in the 16th hardest league in the world , ovie would be a bench warmer in the 146th league in the world if he focued all his might to become a soccer player from youth.

Also he was not playing purely from the wing but a lot more freedom over the pitch being originally a left winger that play more centrally.

Ice hockey for soccer player is what Ice bandy and curling and beach volleyball is to hockey players.

In addition there are no salary cap in soccer so Ronaldo has won much more just playing with the great elite players his whole career.

They are similar in ways. However, CR7 is a fitness fanatic and has come this far because of his relentless dedication.

Best memories of Ronaldo come from the champions league. Without a doubt the biggest money player the competition has ever seen.

No. Ronaldo is, was and shall always be a preening primadonna who was perhaps the most dynamic goal scorer in world football for perhaps 4 years at his peak (Man United and very early Real Madrid), and then remained a very good player on a mega-stacked team for some time afterwards before cashing in his credibility and taking Saudi oil money to be play in a mickey mouse league. Oh, and did someone mention that he's always been a diver who would put Stutzle to shame, even by footballer standards?

The other guy is Ovechkin. You know, the hard as F88k red machine who ran people over for fun, carried a moderate team on his back year in and year out, has been the most consistent and unstoppable goal scoring force for almost his entire career and is still one of the most, if not the most, feared goal scorers at the pinnacle of the sport.

If you want a footballer comparison, try Hristo Stoitchcov (not as big but hard and lethal) or more recently Zlatan Ibrahimovic, but even then it's still apples and oranges.

The 16th toughest soccer league in the world is about a thousand times more competitive than the 16th toughest hockey league, so this is just a terrible comparison. Also, as someone else pointed out, he still plays for the national team and does well there.
He is not in the Saudi league because he is completely washed up, but more so because he has such an ego that he still thinks he should be played and paid a lot more than what he is currently worth, which is not something the bigger clubs were interested in at the time. Hed likely still be playing in one of the major European leagues if he was a bit more humble, but he wouldn't be as dominant as Ovechkin currently simply because of how much more competitive soccer is in comparison to hockey.
