Is our bottom 6 going to be good enough?

I don't know why a lot of you think the bot 6 are going to be somehow worse or "not good enough"

it's still basically a lot of the same guys who won us cups, and/or replaced with better/younger players, and we've always had some of the best depth in the league

why is this upcoming year any different? we can ***** and moan about lack of production or whatever all we want, but it's not like the top lines have been always setting the world on fire either, that's just how this team is

hope sutter uses weal on lots of power plays. he's an awesome play-maker, great vision and speed. perfect for those situations in particular.

one thing about manchester winning the calder cup... all the lines were scoring. don't think bottom lines should just give top lines a breather only. got to have more going on down there imo.

Wouldn't say it's an area of strength but it seems alright. Good at wing, weak at center. Unfortunately bad center depth can punish you so we're just gonna have to hope Shore/Lewis/Weal are up for the challenge. I'm guessing it's an upgrade from last season but likely not as good as any of our cup years.

Flyers have Giroux, Lecavallier the bender, Schenn, Couturier, Gagner , Cousins coming up all at center and not much cap space with Voracek, Couts, Schenn to re-up next year. Maybe a trade with our old buddy Hexy can help us out.

I'd believe only Gagner would be available and Lecavallier but we wouldn't go anywhere near him. So would you trade for Gagner and possibly a d-man .... Nick SCHULTZ perhaps or Luke Schenn for change of scenery.

Clifford + op heading back for Gagner ? Or what can we pony up for Couts if Flyers were to make him available

Why?

Gagner is overpaid and wasn't even good enough in AriPhoenix.

Just what I want, a player that the Coyotes and Flyers don't want. The Kings don't need the Coyotes and Flyers sloppy seconds. Gagner is a disaster.

Gagner has salary retained, his cap hit is 3.2 and has hit 40 points last 2 seasons and before as well. He isnt my 1st choice either but it was a thought cause somethings got to give in Philly. My ideal trade is for Frans Nielson

If a rotten steak is half off it's still a rotten steak. It's telling that a team like Arizona would trade their 25 year old (wow, really?) leading scoring forward for a depth defender in Grossman.

If LA's 3rd line is King-Lewis-Brown. I can see that line do some damage.

Clifford by far is my favorite LW on 4th line. Every time he is out there he is doing his stuff. Everyone loves him(Watch episode 3 of Road to Stadium Series).

Also i would say Clifford is a Lock on LW4. Also Last year Clifford played every game except for 2 of them.

So Center and RW4 is open on 4th line.

I really don't think Nolan spot is a lock, if Weal is going to be on the Big club this season. That's only my opinion.

I can't imagine the line of thinking that would trade for Gagner but not try Weal out at 3C first.

And Gagner isn't bad because he doesn't put up points, he's bad because he's soft (on the puck, not in general--he'll hit), defensively iffy. He's more a victim of expectations than anything but I don't see anything that significantly differentiates him from Kyle Wellwood or any other host of guys who aren't good enough for the top six and aren't reliable for the bottom six.

It might be worth looking into Gagner just for the Hawks. :naughty:

There's no money anyways.

It depends on if the 3rd line center can score and play solid defense. Stoll was good defensively but struggled to provide offense. If they can find a center to do both, the team will be a lot deeper, and better.

I'm betting it's Shore. He was better than Stoll in every facet after his call-up. People are pigeon-holing him as a 4th line center when offensively, he showed he could do more at Manchester last season. I don't care that he didn't produce offensively in his first stint. That's just about every King who has been called up from Manchester. It's the second time around they really start finding their groove. Watching his time with the Monarchs and it's plain to see he has some offensive ability. Maybe not second line, but certainly centering a third line.

i agree, but the coach is sutter, and i'd put money that shore doesn't start on the third line over lewis out of camp

King - Shore - Brown
Clifford - Lewis- Nolan

To me, the x-factor is Shore. He really started to develop toward the end of the year. The points weren't there but you could see the confidence and strength beginning to show. If he takes the Pearson-style step I think he's capable of, I really like that bottom 6.

The most important thing about Shore was that he was very strong defensively, especially for a rookie. Stoll and Richards were a disaster. The points will come.

No it isn't. He's got the centers mixed up.

Also, I stopped reading at this:

On the surface, the third line at least looks very promising. The fourth line is what it is.

If you have Shore at the center position on that fourth line (Clifford/Shore/Nolan), then you really have something dynamic, something we haven't had in years. Was Jason asleep down the stretch last season? Did he bother to watch that fourth line? I did, and I was pleased with what I was seeing.

I can't wait for the season to start. In my opinion, we have a really good lineup at lines 1, 2, and 4. The only question mark is that third line of King/Lewis/Brown. It will be interesting to see how all this plays out, in regard to Weal breaking through the top 12.

Wasn't Sutter, Dean and Blake all down in Manchester during the Calder Cup run ? I think they view Weal as more skilled and maybe slide him into the 3rd line. Have Shore center the 4th line and roll 4 lines that Sutter has been talking about since he got here.

King-Weal-Brown
Clifford-Shore-Lewis

Would be the best 4th line we have ever had

If Weal is able to shoulder load, that would be a really good set-up. Already addition by subtraction with Nolan out.
