Is mcdavid too good not to win a cup?

2nd peried 15:13ish. Kuzmenko beats McDaivd and shouldve had a wrap around goal. Fastest player in the world...only when he has the puck.

2nd period 12:22sh. Watched and gives whoever a free shot.

2nd period 5:13ish. McDavid coasting in the corner doing nothing. Goal

2nd period 2:17ish. McDavid calls for it in front of his own net. Goal

3rd period :51ish. A random crap backhand to nowhere here giving up the GWG goal against. Leon half-asses back and even after the goal, you never see McDaivd in the shot. Dude neever even attempted to come back.

A no one is saying MacKinnon is Barkov, but he is a million times better than this effort and this was simply cherry picking the highlight video and not the whole game.

The fact you’re trying to blame the Bouchard giveaway on McDavid, as well as things the resulted of “shots on goal LOL” shows such a blatant agenda you’re not even worth giving the attention to.

I like how you completely disregard the rest.

Yes, bouch made a poor pass… but he was being contested for the puck. McDavid cheated toward assuming that he was gonna win that battle and make the right play. He lost. Fact of the matter is that players with even the slightest bit of defensive awareness don’t do what McDavid did and play defense first. Defense wins championships. Avs win in 2022 with a goalie that had one eye and a broken backup goalie. Defense won a lot of those games and having all players play 200 ft was the main catalyst to that.

MacKinnon has 4x the amount of blocked shots as McDavid this year and double his total last year. To couple that with the fact that he also more hits every year and more takeaways… all metrics point to MacKinnon being better defensive player who has in fact won a cup. MacKinnon had more than double the hits and takeaways in their 4 game sweep of the oilers in 2022.

factoring into scoring 4 points in a game doesn’t guarantee a win if you play poor defenseZ
McDavid has more takeaways and hits for 2024-2025, so is he a better RS defender?. Those stats don’t capture defensive impact accurately. Here’s their advanced stats for 2023-2024 by JFESH Hockey: Not a perfect representation, but McDavid's defense has come a long way since his reputation in his early career years. There's more to defense than hits and takeaways, and MacKinnon frequently loses his man and gets out of position, those aren't reflected on the stats sheet.

At this point I want Holland back to build the team. Jackson/Bowman have further set the team back years in a single off season. Team is old, injury prone and zero youth to bring energy.

Once Edmonton finally settles in (possibly tonight) and McDrai are on seperate lines rolling.

THE EDMONTON OILERS ARE 2025 STANLEY CUP CHAMPIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Sorry but I’m thinking McDavid winning a cup will happen on a team other than the Oilers. That guy is the best we’ve seen since 99 and 66. But he’s stuck on a club with crap.

is there any rule against McDavid telling the Oilers to trade him, but than him saying there is a good chance he will re-sign with them? that is the only way I can see the Oilers improving to give McDavid a shot at a cup over the next 7-8 years, get a nice haul for him including a goalie, he plays next year on another team and than he comes back, maybe sign him to a 1 year deal and give him a 7 or 8 year extension at the end of the year so he wont miss out on maximizing his contract

I still think the Oilers can win the cup next year. I haven’t been feeling them for any kind of run this year. At least not since the beginning of the year.

But if they give Skinner a $5 for 5 contract like Blackwood, Daccord, Lankinen just got it’s all over.

I honestly think they need to move on from Skinner completely. He belongs on the Sharks.

McDavid WILL win the cup, barring some unforeseen circumstance like a career ending injury at a young age.

I’m just not sure it will be in Edmonton anymore.

I said before last year I think the Oilers win one of the next three cups. They made it to the finals the first year after I said that, in spite of horrible goaltending from Skinner and being dangerously close to getting eliminated in the second round.

I all but ruled them out for a cup win this year as the season went on. I even picked LA to win this series.

And all the Kings horses and all the Kings men couldn’t get McDavid to the cup again.

I mean they could if they were on the same side, but a star player would never move from Edmonton to LA.

What is with some of you?

If the Oilers had a goalie who could stop a f***ing beach ball in game 1 or at the very least not let in a game winner with 40 seconds left after his team battled back to tie it, he could have single handedly been credited for winning that game.

If the Oilers had a coach/non crack staff who didn’t allow the same goalie to sink them in game 2 by giving him the start, maybe they have a chance to win tonight.

Blame management for stupid contracts and mismanagement, blame the staff for poor goalie decisions, stop blaming McDavid.

I don’t even like the guy that much, outside of acknowledging his talent, but some of you have a weird hard on for the dude.

Very similar to when we stomped the piss out of them in the 2022 WCF (which was embarrassing that they were even there to begin with). Drai would limp around in the D Zone and then when they got the puck his leg was "fine" and he was able to move at full speed.

They have two "stars" that won't play defense and their fans will blame anything except their "stars" lack of effort on defense.

Bouchard makes a BRUTAL pass to absolutely no one and somehow you two are twisting that to McDavids fault. It’s utterly hilarious. And shows an agenda not even worth addressing.

How is McKinnon and his awesome defense doing for him in his series so far by the way? With a VASTLY better supporting cast?

Care to show the plays today that directly led to goals against bevause of “poor defensive play”?
