Yeah. He also sucks in the playoffs like Yzerman. Definitely done after back to back finals losses. Players generally never recover from losing in the finals. Look at Steve Yzerman, Wayne Gretzky, Sidney Crosby. Gordie Howe too, seven finals losses, did nothing else notable.

Problem is you're comparing McDavid to one of the most complete centere of all time (Crosby), one of the best two way centers of all time (Yzerman), quite possible the toughest player of alltime (Howe), and the GOAT (Gretzky).

All those guys can do what McDavid does (put up points), but they also offer other things. McDavid is quite frankly... 1 dimensional, and he doesn't have any intangibles. Hes more Marcel Dionne than those guys.

In 20 years no one is going to care who his goalie was, or about his point totals if he keeps coming up short.

People are going to remember him getting beat in back to back finals, him being a -5 at even strength in 2025 SCF, and as a captain who came up short. The criticism is justified at this point.
All time dumb take. Its not an individual sport.

No, you can't win if your team simultaneously has bottom 15 D and AHL tier goaltending.
Nope.

Fla teams is better than last year. Edmonton is much worse.

This was expected. Colossal failure by Edmonton management in the offseason.

Well I for one was hoping that if he yelled at Skinner more, he might have been motivated to make more saves. And perhaps a good sit down, captain to player, would’ve convinced Nurse to void his contract and play for a third of the price to open up cap space.

I think it’s ok to say, at this point, 97 needs to finish the job to really cement his legacy at the level his talent demands. And that he’s not viscerally some sort of natural “leader of men”. But is he a “bad” captain? I think that’s probably rather hard for most of us to have a true opinion on.

He is one of the best ever, but when your playing against nearly perfectly built Florida squad it makes him mortal

Yzerman got left off canada best on best. He didn't have any cups when he was 28. He got to play on Detroit who had 12 hall of famers with no salary cap. with guys like Federov, Coffee, Hasek, Chelios, Lindstrom, hull, Shanahan, datsyuk, zetterberg, coffee, the list goes on and on. Bud you're lost.

You are either joking or just wildly uninformed.

Marcel Dionne was a guy who struggled to win pucks back. Great with it, not without it. Nobody wants to be out on the ice against McDavid, whether you have the puck or not. He is a dangerous PKer and busts his ass in all three zones.

These sorts of foolish takes must be coming from basketball fans or people from some other sport where you can just lean on a superstar all the way. This is a team sport and McDavid's Oilers have gone further than 30 other teams two years in a row. Gordie Howe didn't go further than 5. Yet we get these reflexive takes every year about whoever loses in the cup final, like clockwork.

Sorry for criticizing your GOAT =(

PLEASE FORGIVE ME =(

Damn I forgot, McJesus never deserves criticism.

He should be a back to back Conn Smythe winner. Sorry for criticizing the GOAT.
The problem here is Your criticism argument is horribly flawed and flat our wrong. Maybe if you actually brought a well thought out argument you wouldn't get a response like this.

I am not an Oilers fan either. Just be better if you want to go for it.

OMG sorry for criticizing McJesus =(

Ill retract my statement and replace it with McDavid is the best hockey player ever, and the reason why the Oilers lost is because the Oilers team failed McDavid... its not fair =( McDavid is a hypothetical 2x SC champion and the best hockey player ever!!!

No youre right McJesus deserves no blame. His teammates failed him. Everyone else deserves blame not McJesus!!!

Connor Mcdavis made it further than 31 other captains.

to be fair, Edmonton are the best team in the West. I think the Panthers would have made quick work out of any other Western team.

but I am a little surprise Edmonton fell out so suddenly after seeing them dismantle both Vegas and Stars so easily, who were also finals favourites.

While not all true its way more accurate than your other posts. His management team let him down thats for sure.

Honestly I thought this for a long time, there just is a vibe, that team doesn't ring of a tight cohesive unit, a family, that culture starts with leadership, starts with the captain. From the outside there is just something really off with Edmonton. You never got that vibe from Crosby, Messier, Yzerman etc. everyone knew they were great leaders. Connor doesn't strike me as a great leader, a phenomenal player. Just because you are a great player doesn't mean you'll be a great leader.

Honestly, it seemed like McDavid was nursing through a massive injury this year

That 2023-24 abdominal injury f***ed him over possibly for eternity
