Is Matthews the worst playoff performer ever?

Almost like the entire team matters... it's why when McDavid and Draisaitl started sucking against Barkov they lost, because no one else stepped up...

Yeah, McDavid sucked so bad, he won the Conn Smythe.

I'm starting to understand how Leaf fans could think Matthews rates with McDrai. They don’t just not watch the games, they apparently don't even check the scores.

I blame the players and the fans. Nobody gets away from this disaster without some accountability. But 60 years without a cup final isn't an accident. Every other Canadian market (except Winnipeg) managed to make it to the finals since then. You think that's a coincidence? Or do you think just maybe the brutality of the market adds a significant amount of pressure to that team that makes winning harder than it is for other teams?
Conspiracy theories? Seriously? Why? Does that make it easier? You really think that the NHL is somehow preventing Toronto from winning? Show your work? I am 100% anti-conspiracy theory...here and everywhere else.

Give me PROOF not opinion.

Or are you trying to argue that the hottest market in hockey makes it impossible to win?

Let me ask you this...I saw AM after the G5 loss...zero emotion...I saw him blame "passengers" last night.

When is it the biggest star in the biggest market's FAULT? When?

What the hell are you talking about?

I'm saying Toronto is one of the toughest markets to win in because of how crazy the fans are.

Every game except game 6?

Stop drafting mentally weak players then...smdh.

Are you serious? Awwww...poor Auston...dude is the highest player in the league and he caved...again

Those bad fans and media...do you even hear how you sound?

FRAGILE - THIS SIDE UP

The fans have been infinitely patient for a decade and any hint of criticism was immediately shut down by MLSE and its sycophants in the media. There is no excuse outside of their own mental shortcomings for the core four failing to deliver again and again.

Hahaha, all these Leaf fans in here in pure denial about Toronto as a hockey market. Even when Matthews and Marner go on to win cups with other teams they'll still be claiming Toronto is an amazing place to play and that the players should be honored to play in front of these booing, beer throwing, jersey burning people.

For the record, no Matthews and Marner and Nylander and Tavares aren't good enough players to be the top guy on any team, but especially in Toronto.

That must be the same reason why the Yankees have such a hard time winning.
Yankees don't have a culture of losing that makes their fanbase hate their own team like Toronto does.

Last night Leaf fans told everyone how they really feel. Marner was just the scapegoat, make no mistake, Leaf fans truly hate their own team. They hate all of the core 4, it's just easy to boo Marner because he's the one who's leaving this offseason. That blue maple leaf represents 60 years of failure, and the fans have nothing left deep down but resentment for anyone who chooses to wear that jersey on the ice. The only way they're ever going to win a cup is if they get a Mark Messier HOFer that has already won several cups and knows how to tune out the noise and get things done.

Maybe if they didn't keep idiots in roles for far too long they'd actually look past themselves and their ignorance. I'm speaking specifically about blokes like Brendan Shanahan and his "vision" and what not. He makes MLSE a ton of money so apparently that means failure is easier to ignore more often than not and its easier for him to make others the scapegoat for the failures over the decisions he forces down.

Their fans blaming Marner is one of the more bizarre things here, the hate he gets because of their media and all that other shit is just absolutely nuts. Maybe he walks away, maybe Tavares does too, they suddenly will have all that cap space and will still fail to do the right things with it and will focus their blame on the next high paid bloke that somehow is the problem when it should be Shanahan and his weak ass vision and the idiocy of a Gm trying to bring it to life.

There's a huge difference lol. Boston and New York have other sports to distract their fans. The only comparable market is Montreal, but their culture and pride in their team makes it a bit easier. You'll never see Habs fans hating their team, they're too proud to act like that. They'll act stupid occasionally out of frustration, like with the fake cheer for Roy, but for the most part the Canadiens are sacred to them.
On a statistic POV,how can you not compare NY, Boston for example to Toronto. Size wise, multiple professional sport (Blue Jays, Raptors, Leafs etc..) On a culturel base, how is Montreal not a comparable market? And since 1969, Habs won 9 titles to Toronto 0, just saying.

Base on facts, please explain how the NY Giants do have 3-4 Super Bowl title, and why the NY Jets haven't won anything for so long and on the other hand how can the NY Yankees win 27 World Series championship? Let's put in the equation the NY Mets for the purpose of the discussion. Same market area, same city or metropolitan region. Not the same result.

My opinion and it ain't fact: It is a matter of team competence, team culture and players responding to the highest level attending the next gear in their willingness to WIN.. I personally don't give shit about pressure excuses. True champions thrive on pressure.

Bottom line: IMO, Fans and media can not be the reason why players don't upgrade their performance under pressure. Now on the Leafs loss AGAIN this year.... from management, to the roster and the Leafs core, a huge analysis is required. Fans and media are not part of what need to be analysed.

Why do you think the fans and media don't influence the culture of these organizations? I think it's ignorant to think they have no impact on the culture.

You should take a gander at the habs forum if you really think this way.

TBH, nobody should even type McDavid's name or Drai's name in this thread. You cannot even put Matthews into their stratosphere. Too off topic too.

Fact of the matter is, AM34 has ZERO goals in how many game 7's now? 5? 6? I lost track.

Seriously, if this dude even comes up clutch in game 3, TO wins this series. He got one goal that was atrocious by Bob.

I still wonder what is injury is. He tried smoking a few games. Was good on faceoffs. Had the most shots. I am thinking it's mental.

You almost feel bad for the Leafs when they drop the biggest game in their modern history, fans start booing their own players off the ice, throwing trash and jerseys on the ice and stars that keep them a regular playoff team are about to bolt in free agency.

But then you get stupid comments like this and it’s all hilarious again.

Good luck winning any tournaments in the foreseeable future, Team USA.

The same fans that every single year think they can win the Cup regardless of how good or bad their team is? The same fans that pay thousands of dollars to support their team every year and pay the highest ticket prices in the league? The same fans that praise their players just as passionately as any other fan base and in many cases far more passionately.

Hockey players are either weak minded as hell or it's an excuse for being a failure. They must be among the most weak minded athletes in all of sport. Literally any player in the Premier League has more mental fortitude because they put up with more vitriol in an afternoon friendly match from fans than any hockey player puts up with in their entire lives.
