Honestly, Matthews would thrive if he was the 2nd or 3rd best player on a contending team.
Criminy. How much are your top 2 guys going to be paid if Matthews is your 3rd best player?

I don’t have a horse in this race and really do not care who of the two is the better PO performer. Starting this conversation from a Oilers perspective after Draisaitls non show against the very same Team in the SC finals is as dumb in my eyes… in fact besides McDavid this Cats team did shut down every superstar they faced the last two years.Where has Matthews been in the playoffs these past 9 years?
I really hope this isn’t your attempt to say that Matthews is as good as Draisaitl in the POs. Cuz thats a pretty dumbass counter
Sure you might have a point if the Cats are the only team Matthews has no showed against.I don’t have a horse in this race and really do not care who of the two is the better PO performer. Matthews’ “passengers” comment reminds me of a commercial. I don’t actually remember what the commercial was for, but the “scene” of the commercial was a reporter interviewing a star football player (a fictional one) after his team lost. They then had approximately the following dialogue:
Reporter: “Can you give us any insight about what went wrong and why you lost?”
Player: “After much consideration, I’m going to have to place the blame for this loss squarely on my teammates’ shoulders.”
Reporter: “Don’t you think your four fumbles had anything to do with it?”
Player: “…”
That’s the sense of attitude I’m getting out of Auston Matthews.
For a player of his caliber I can't think of a worse playoff performer. It's pretty much undeniable at this point.
The fact that plenty of folks had him over Draisaitl as recently as last season is downright criminal.
He has no leadership qualities, I think they gave him the C for marketing reasons or maybe his camp really pushed for itA captain observing that there were passengers on his team is inadvertently telling on himself and his leadership qualities, isn't he?

Not only that but the two goalies the Oilers beat in this playoffs were Cup champion goalies the two seasons prior to last one. That's some serious copium that guy/gal? was drinking. You do realize that the only team to beat the Oilers in the last…3 seasons in the playoffs are the cup winners right?
23/24- Panthers
22/23- Vegas
21/22 - Colorado
Finnish sidekicks and the rat?Not even the worst playoff performer in the Leafs/Panthers series. If anything, he played decent considering he was injured all season.
All of Florida's stars were invisible. Barkov and Reinhart shutdown by M&M, and they needed a 36 year old rat and his 2 finnish sidekicks to carry them to the ECF.
But that will go unnoticed cause ragging on the leafs is the easy, lazy thing to do.
Maybe just the hairline, and what he'll look like by the time he retiresFair to say no one is rushing out to compare him to Mark Messier.
Nah these boards told me he's Draisaitl-level great
1. Draisaitl was visibly injured, it's not speculation, or a nagging injury, unlike in Matthews' case.I don’t have a horse in this race and really do not care who of the two is the better PO performer. Sure - AM is injured every year come playoffs!I think pre-injury Matthews was strictly better*
*in a regular season game in November. The above comment does not apply to playoff games. Not valid in Quebec.
Hahhahhaaaaa.... Always the same - AM has been injured every year come playoffs! Leafers never learn !considering he was injured all season.
