We have it right from Rantanen and his agents mouth there was no agreement on a deal they never spoke to him.Watch the interview with the Canes GM on the CJ show i think it was when he explicitly states this.

34 gets the pass ... I just dont get it for the past 7 years
This is actually insane and I didn’t even realize it.
Kasperi Kapanen who was basically an AHLer at the start of the year has more goals in 1 2nd round game than Auston Matthews does in 10 2nd round games.Nic Robertson, who has been a healthy scratch for the majority of the playoffs, has more career goals in Round 2 than Matthews.
I like this game.Kasperi Kapanen who was basically an AHLer at the start of the year has more goals in 1 2nd round game than Auston Matthews does in 10 2nd round games.

I thank the blues for waiving him. Decent trade off for Holloway, Kapanen scores the goal that gets us into the WCF while Holloway had a first round exit and missed all the games with injury, typical for him.Kasperi Kapanen who was basically an AHLer at the start of the year has more goals in 1 2nd round game than Auston Matthews does in 10 2nd round games.
Because for some weird reason, mostly due to undeserved arrogance, I believe, Leafs fans think every superstar Ontario-born player will sign in Toronto as soon as they have the chance. the reality is that only Tavares has done that in the last 30 years.I've seen lots of people speculate that McDavid will sign in Toronto as a UFA, but I'm not sure if any of them are sane. Personally I find the idea rather preposterous.
Don't you get tired of always making excuses for him?He refuses to take wrist shots, which is how he scored 69 goals. He went to Germany this season to get it looked at.
I’m assuming he needs surgery. He isn’t on his usual spot on the PP because he can’t shoot. You’ll notice he only sets up at the point or the circle for one timers, which he’s never done before and isn’t good at.
Maybe they can give him a heart transplant while they’re at itHe refuses to take wrist shots, which is how he scored 69 goals. He went to Germany this season to get it looked at.

Your opinion is based on ignoring real life and real time variables. So maybe if you want to actually understand there are human elements to it and that its not a video game and they are not robots then you can wrap your head around it.![]()
Brind'Amour: Canes should have known Rantanen wouldn't sign
Carolina Hurricanes head coach Rod Brind'Amour suggested Monday that the organization should have been certain Mikko Rantanen was willing to sign long term before making a trade to acquire him from the Colorado Avalanche in January."Mikko was the only one that I've been associated with that...www.thescore.com
it appears i remember it wrong.
It doesn't change my opinion on him though. The very nature of professional sports and professional jobs is you put your pants and go to work to get the job done. Not mope around.
Has he been injured his entire playoff career? Because you're acting as though this is the only year he's struggled in the playoffs, and it's due to injury.I don’t enjoy bashing on a guy who everyone knows is playing injured. If he wasn’t missing games, in Germany getting treatment, and wasn’t taken off his spot on the PP because he couldn’t shoot then I have no problem with the fair criticism.
Laughing at a guy who’s injured, and everyone’s known he’s injured isn’t my thing.
He has the ability to play well and still contribute without shooting well, but some people know he can’t shoot well so you’ll notice all the criticism is on his goal total and not his point total, or faceoffs, or defence. Very intentional hatred of a player.

Just the last 2.
Matthews wasn’t in his prime from when he entered the league in his first year. He gets criticized for making the playoffs as a teenager and not producing as a teenager. Most players don’t make the playoffs for a few years until they’re more developed.
He’s been better in the playoffs since his prime but the best version of him hasn’t been healthy in the playoffs aside from the first 2 games last year.
He looks bored, like "cant wait for that Friends marathon on netflix tonight".I’ve seen enough.. Shoeless Auston Matthews is throwing the series
This just seems like a lot more excuses for subpar performance. "He was young" and "he's injured now that he's at his best" seem convenient ways to wave away a disappointing performance.Just the last 2.

Yeah, no. Injury excuses aren't going to cut it year after year after year. It's a problem between the ears for Auston Matthews and will rightfully continue to dog him until he figures out how to play at the intensity required of him in the post-season.
