Is Matthews the worst playoff performer ever?

Leafs cant move him - 13M for the next 4 years, he will play at least 3 of them with Toronto. Marner is likely gone this year, and they will resign Knies and go after someone in FA. Maybe they move Robertson, although I think he is an ok bottom six winger with some minor upside.

Matthews simply doesn't elevate in the playoffs. He looks slow and lacks the ability to attack. Incredibly frustrating player to watch

Glad that you asked.

It's using the latest JFresh model. Let's look at game 5 with Matthews. In which he was phenomenal and dominating like usual, so - he's got 6 shots (highest of all forwards) and two of them high danger shots. That equals to one goal. Now Matty has a two goal lead on Rantanen. Quite a playoff run eh?

But for overall dominance we have to bring Mattys defensive play to the picture. Once again, elite Selke like performance. He held the ACTUAL Selke winner Barkov to zero (!) points. That's simply amazing.

I think the big question still remains; how on earth can the Panthers handle AM34?

If that’s seriously how adjusted goals work then it’s as stupid as my intuition says it is. No, you don’t get credit for a goal just by virtue of taking shots in a given spot on the ice.

Draisaitl had 3 primo chances last night against Vegas, that doesn’t mean he scored 1.5 goals. Completely absurd.

Is there any rumours, murmurs, something that Matthews is still hurt ?

Maybe whatever is bothering him, if there is something, he should get it dealt with.

The way Matthews has played id rather have Desharnais as my number 1 centre in the playoffs than Matthews.

He sprained his wrist trying to untangle his purse from his scarf

has he been hurt for 7 years , each playoffs is the same
glad he wears the fig on his crest

I am just choosing to believe he is injured. It may be chronic, so the affect is no different than him wilting, but I think he’s injured.

A big Friday night would make me feel better about the whole thing.
An injury would have no effect on that horrible, defeated post game interview with zero emotion.

THAT is your captain and he sounds like the series is over.

Matthews actually experiences a bigger dropoff than Dionne.

Dionne went from .54gpg in the season to .42gpg in the playoffs.

Matthews goes from .64gpg in the season to .39gpg in the playoffs.

PPG

Dionne 1.31 to .92
Matthews 1.16 to .88

30% drop for Dionne vs 24% drop for Matthews

Primeau might be ‘champion’ though. 35% drop which was saved by a late career great playoff performance or it would be even uglier. If his career had ended one year earlier he’d have an incredible 47% drop off.

Is this just Leafs fans blowing smoke up their own ass to justify Matthews' lack for goal scoring? What am I missing here? The guy barely kills penalties and really isn't special as a #1 center on the defensive side.
Yes. This is pretty clear to everyone outside the Toronto sphere. His Selke nomination was a complete fraud by the Toronto media.

I'm not trolling, legitimately please help me understand here.

Everyone calls Matthews this incredible defensive forward. He's been "putting on a clinic" defensively according to a lot of people.

Last night he had two horrible giveaways in his own zone, one lead directly to a goal. I've noticed this a few times this series. Paying attention to his defense, there is nothing that makes him standout. Barkov is extremely noticeable defensively for example.

the media loves to tell us all in Canada how great this team is and that nostrils will be the guy that brakes Ovi's record????

what a crock and the sad part is leaf fans believe it

So much talk about Matthews and none about Barkov now holding Matthews and Kuch to zero goals.

Spend so much time talking about these guys during the regular season because they stack 5 point nights vs the Sharks and Flyers.
It could be because its a Matthews thread so why would we make it about Barkov? Start a Barkov thread?

A sad reality is that a timeline exists where he was drafted by the Yotes and isn't this fashionista loser but an actual leader for a franchise that needed someone to be the face of it.
An equally sadder reality is he goes to Arizona, is coddled even more there than he was in Toronto, and the league shoves his fashionista down everyone's throats while he becomes even more overpaid yet equally mediocre

Its funny, everyone loves to parrot how his goals per game is similar to Ovi, but nobody wants to say why they use goals per game instead of seasonal output
