Is Mark Schief underrated?

Good year, not sure he is underrated. One or two hot seasons doesn't make a player a top guy in the league/Country.

Good example would be Zibanejad, during his hot spells people were thinking and posting like he was the second coming of Christ. But he isn't a top guy in the league/Country either.

People are not talking about Schief as if he is the second coming, but, I think it would be fair to say he is one of the top 10 centres for this season. Mackinnon, Mcdavid, Draisatl, Barkov are all probably going to have better seasons then him. Judging on the one year sample, what other centres are definitely ahead of him?
Hughes? Miller?

Is Jason Robertson one of the top wingers in the league because of his great 3 year stretch?

Is Werenski one of the top D in the league because of his outstanding season?

I think he’s fairly rated. Good 1C

Having a great season but was sub ppg and poor defensively the 2 seasons prior, which is barely a 1C in my books.

My ranking…I prefer PLD over Schiefele to be 1C if Schiefele and Dubois remain on the same team.

Destined to end up in the hall of very good. He didn't make the league on pure skill. His improvement from 2012 - 2018 was remarkable. He couldn't stay on his feet his first two years. Very hard worker.

I don’t think he’s so much underrated as it is that he got too much blame when things stagnated in Winnipeg there for a bit. He’s having a great season. No issues with somebody having him as a top 10 center this year.

Ultimately he and Connor and Helle are gonna be judged on how they do this post-season, fair or not. If they go on a run, it’ll cement their places in NHL royalty. If they flame out early, 100+ points or another Vezina are not gonna save them from being questioned.

Not sure i'd say he's underrated, not yet anyway, two more years of being near the top of the stats board and i'd agree.

What do you look for?

Over the last 5 seasons he is 10th among C in goals scored. 13th in points.

Seems to me he should rank in the 15 to 20 range among C's.

Hughes and Eichel are having better seasons, as is Point. Schiefele has always been a talented offensive player, and he's having his breakout season at 31 if he keeps it up. I don't think he's under rated at all though, nor do I think he is perennially a top 10 center.

How is Hughes having a better season ahead by 2 points, but, a lot fewer goals.

I don't think it's significantly better, but he's got a better PPG, and his shooting percentage is a far more sustainable one to carry on throughout the season compared to Scheifele shooting 6% above his career average. Hughes always seems to get hurt though, so there's a good chance Mark ends up having the better season in the end, he's more durable.
