Is Mark Schief underrated?

He is underrated. Great scorer who isn't great defensively, also plays for a small market team. As such he gets overlooked by those not in Winnipeg.

Being left off Canada was a head scratcher. I really am getting shades of team USA 2016 from this Canada roster. Seems they tried to get too clever and bring along too many role players in place of skill. Hopefully doesn't end up biting them.

His career production (goals, assists, points) is eerily similar to Tavares, take that as you will. Here are stats over past 8 seasons:

But yes, due to the market he plays in doesn't get the attention others do.

more consistency is needed, anyone can have a good year.

Not sure i'd say he's underrated, not yet anyway, two more years of being near the top of the stats board and i'd agree.
 
Guy has gone from underrated, to overrated, back to underrated here on HF.

Most people shit on him for his lack of defense, but the offense up front undoubtedly runs through him and it shows anytime he goes down with injury and isnt on the ice. Hes still a top end 1C in this league.

Schief's line seems to have improved their defensive numbers, but, that could be a byproduct of playing with the best goalie.

But, defense usually doesn't get noticed as much as offense. No one is talking about the best forwards the Mack, McD, because of their defensive games. Being a small market definitely doesn't help.

Scheifele has been the model of consistency productivity-wise since he broke out. He's always been around the top 20 in scoring since the days when Wheeler was stapled to his line.
 
I don’t think so really. He’s always been rated a 1C that’s not in the top tier, but he’s been more of a consistently good producer with a couple years in the top 10. Maybe a bit recently as his production hasn’t been as strong. In the three years coming into the year he was 52nd in league scoring and 44th in points per game while being a mediocre defensive player. He’s having a strong year but I don’t think it’s a surprise he was left off Team Canada even if he probably should be based on his year. He’s a bit of a weird fit as the team has better offensive centers and their winger depth is stronger on the right side if he was to move over.

Isn’t Kyle Dubas one of the guys in charge of picking the team? I’d say that doesn’t bode well for the 4 nations tournament
 
Good year, not sure he is underrated. One or two hot seasons doesn't make a player a top guy in the league/Country.

Good example would be Zibanejad, during his hot spells people were thinking and posting like he was the second coming of Christ. But he isn't a top guy in the league/Country either.

Wtf, am I missing something? Why would you go out of your way to celebrate someone getting injured? If I’m reading this right it seems very out of place.

Also isn’t Scheifele from Kitchener and not Barrie :p played for Colts, but didn’t think he was from there.

Sorry if I’m misinterpreting.
