MacKinnon could win the Art Ross and Hart. I guess technically so could Draisaitl. Either way Drais might have the Richard trophy locked up pretty soon. That's a 7 goal lead right now. But you do have to factor in the McDavid and Makar factor. No doubt the vote split might hurt the chances of MacKinnon or Draisaitl from winning the Hart. If anything, at this moment a very, very quiet 79 point season (third in scoring) is happening for Kucherov. He's has more of a gap from his next best teammate if you are looking at part of the criteria for MVP. I still think MacKinnon wins his 2nd Hart in a row. He's just on fire right now.
I wish the notion of looking at how many points a guy has vs #2 on his team would simply end…maybe just me but it annoys me to no end…somehow we should just block at 2 players on each team…that’s all that matters? Fact is, both Draisaitl and MacKinnon have been part of more of their team’s goals than Kucherov has been for his team.

There are 2 guys who just keep shooting 20% year after year and it's Leon Draisaitl and Brayden Point. I wonder what those 2 players have in common. You shouldn't win the Hart when you aren't the best player on your team.

It isn't the be all and end all. But the term "valuable" is right in the title. Basically you have to envision what would happen if you took this person off of your team. How much more hurt is the team? I don't focus on that solely, I am just saying there might be a bit of a vote split. 1973 I don't think Bobby Clarke was the best player in the NHL, but Esposito had 130 points - which was the norm for him - and Orr had 101 and missed 15 games. Clarke ends up winning the MVP. I think he was the 3rd best player in the NHL that year, but he won the Hart. It happens. Not saying any way is fool proof.

This guy gets it.

Quite literally the most valuable right now. Leon about to get catapulted off this list next season when he gets his raise.

The Avs won because of Skinner and Makar.

Mackinnon was gifted 2 points by Skinner. Im sure you saw Draisaitls goals.

Oilers are a lottery team without Drai this year.

Lol no they arent. They have the second most points in the west and still have McDavid.

The Avs are most definitely a lottery team without Mack. They are fighting for a wild card with him. Especially with the Rantanen trade.

I doubt it. He’s cooked until he’s lifting the Cup and scooping up another legitimate Conn Smythe in June.
VidNasty at the start of the season(this year and last); McDavid is going to capture the scoring title and Hart blah, blah.

VidNasty towards the end of the season; Oh actually I meant to say regular season awards don't matter anymore.

So much goal post moving- player are going to trip from all those holes in the ground your making.

I didn’t move any goal posts. All the awards matter, but I’d look even more of a fool if I dug in during the last third of the regular season and insisted he would win regular season hardware this year at this point.

But I do believe that he will have another Conn Smythe run, that will end this time in lifting the Cup.

Loving the similarities between McDavid/Draisaitl and Crosby/Malkin from back in the day. Outside of the team's respective fanbases, there's lots of chatter about "hE's NoT eVeN tHe BeSt PlAyEr On hIs OwN tEaM." But fans of the Oilers just get to feel blessed in knowing that both of these studs play for their team. Love em both. Hope they get a Cup soon. This coming from a Pens fan.

Mcdavid hasn't been good this year despite his points total. Draisaitl is easily the best player overall on the Oilers right now.

As soon as Rantanen leaves MacGinnon's generational empty net pace fell off a cliff.

Who was really carrying who?

MacGinnon is a zero time scoring champion. One time gimme for the Hart due to the Canadian media. Carried to his cup by a dominant defensive run by arguably the best defensive top 4 per cap hit in the history of the game.

Nobody will remember his name unless he blows out the empty net points record. And without Rantanen he can't do it.

If you look at this list, you just have to draw the conclusion that it is a skill, some are
better to score on the chances they have.
There is probably some equivalent list of NBA 3 pointers

I really hate this notion that in order to win the Hart, your team can't have other star players on it. Gretzky's Oilers had a smorgasbord of HoFers on the roster.

I think this whole "the most valuable player to his team" notion has been taken way too far.

I agree with that poster though that looking at only two players is rather myopic. If you have the two best players in the league on Team A and the 3rd and 10th best players in the league on Team B, but players 3-20 on Team B are all better than their counterparts on Team A, then the difference between the top two players on the team is irrelevant imo, and the best player in the league should probably be the Hart winner. Obviously that’s an extreme example, but some of the arguments in here can get a little ridiculous when no one considers the rest of the teams.
