Is Jon Cooper on the hot seat?

Think Utah would dump Tourigny? I’ve thought he’s done well.

I'd consider it unlikely. Tourigny has done well enough to earn himself another year to see if he can take the team to the playoffs next year. Playoffs weren't necessarily the goal this year. We'll probably get rid of him if we miss the playoffs next year or get off to a putrid start, on the other hand. I'd love to have Jon Cooper as the team's coach, but I don't think things are aligned well for us to go after him for next season.

On the other hand, if we brought in Cooper for the 26-27 season, I'd be thrilled. The timing on that might actually work out, regardless of how the team does in 25-26.

Always amusing to read comments from Tampa Bay fans when they finally realize their team is no longer the dominating force that it once was and other teams have caught up and, in some cases passed them, with an overall better TEAM roster.

Tampa's success had far less to do with the "COVID" excuses and far more to do with a system that has used the Cap Wording and an amazing farm system to their advantage.

The thing with Cooper is that he hasn't proven that he can coach a team without elite talent. He's had top end talent for his entire career in Tampa

Brisebois confirmed today that Cooper will be returning next season and does not see him going anywhere beyond his contract. Cooper said that he cannot see himself anywhere else. Probably time to put this to bed. Wouldn't expect many of the assistants back, though.

It’s time for a change there for sure. Looking at Blashill first and foremost. I like Jeff Halpern but might be time to move on there as well. So Lalonde is available…maybe he should take his spot back from Blashill.

If it's time for anything, it would be to replace Brisebois. Bolts have slowed down on the ice. Guess it will depend on how competitive Vinik (the owner) wishes to be.

You expected him to win all those cups with bad players? cmon now, even elite coaches need good players to win. By your logic, teams should not pay for elite players and should focus on just getting an elite coach to win the cup.

Cmon JR, work your magic and fly your Jet to Tampa and give Jon Cooper a ride to Vancouver. He is one of the few guys I rather have over Tocchet and would improve our team and may even make Hughes stay with Canucks. Offer him the same money offered to Toch and make him the richest coach in the NHL.

Tocchet was signed to coach Van 2025/2026. Sully had a contract with Pit too. Coaches move on to greener pastures. Happens all the time. Imo the chatter around Cooper to Utah is important. He could get a 30+ million dollar deal from them. That’s huge!

I get that…. Just don’t think Utah is going to go that way. Ownership has too many things going right now to be worried about who their coach will be after next season.

Sure. The fact of the matter is we can only give our opinion. There is chatter though about Utah wanting Cooper. He’s got only one year left with Tampa. Imo he could do like Sully and mutually agree to move on. Go to Utah for a guaranteed 30+ million.
Money talks.

Nope never said that. What I said was we havent seen what he can do with a less than stellar roster. Can he take a bottom feeder and turn them into an 8th seed? Can he take an 8th seed and turn them into a top 5 team. We haven't seen what kind of coach he is when he isn't being carried by the most elite players in the league. Other coaches have that track record, Cooper does not.....
