Is Jon Cooper on the hot seat?

He signed a 1 year extension last year so that was curious. Canucks didn’t use the option on Tocchet to keep him for 1 more year as you don’t like to have a lame duck HC. So either cooper extends this summer or they part ways. Would seem odd for him to just coach out his final year of the contract next season.

I would rather try a different set of assistant coaches first. Cooper is a big part of our identity and culture. There are also still areas on the roster that need to be addressed on D and in the bottom 6.

If the Lightning Management are DUMB enough to listen to the mere handful of spoiled rotten, crybaby, fair weather fans who are calling for Cooper's firing, the organization deserves whatever failures happen to it moving forward for the rest of its time in the NHL.

For a young coach with Cooper's record to suddenly become available, there are teams that would fire their existing Head Coach if Cooper would sign with them, let alone the teams already needing a coach.

As others have mentioned, the issue is NOT the Head Coach. The issue IS the amount of Cap Space tied up in the core players who have failed to live up to those contracts over the past three postseasons. With the amount they have tied up in underperforming, aging fan favorites, they are unable to sign the same quality of bottom six players they used to have. In addition, the farm system talent is level is far below what it used to be, having been used to achieve the success of the back-to-back Championships.

Reunion with Yzergod? DRW fans licking their chops
Given his relationship with SFY and the young talent the Red Wings have, this would be a perfect match.
Should it happen, it might ALMOST be enough for me to lose my common sense and actually root for the Red Wings.

To me this is exactly the reason I'm thinking Cooper does need to go, to change the culture and get this team playing a game better suited to the playoffs than the regular season. We had the best goals per game in the regular season and currently have the 2nd worst goals per game in the postseason. I get that we are playing one of the best defensive teams, but our core has been too ineffective thus far. The series would probably already be over if we didn't have Guentzel. Point and Kucherov look lost. I'm not sure that miserable performance in game 1 by a group of cup vets doesn't reflect on the coach not having his team ready. The only thing I can say in his defense is the loss of Hagel for multiple games has taken his one core player with heart and desire away from him, though he wasn't exactly having a good series either.

Larry Brooks couldn’t bring Tkachuk to 8th Avenue or get Zegras in exchange for Lafreniere and that contract. Now he’s giving speculation on Tampa?

Anything is possible but it seems very remote to me,

Isn’t the owner’s name “Smith”, not “Smyth “?

Nearly every coach who loses in the first round will be on the hot seat

Maybe. The only thing I'll say for now, since only one team has been eliminated so far, is that I would think Sheldon Keefe gets a free pass this year since the Devils had so many injuries going into the playoffs.

TB was the top-scoring team in the league and had the second-highest point differential. Where is this whole thing coming from that they are an average team? They are in a playoff battle with another elite team and coming up a little short. That's just how it goes in the NHL playoffs. It's the hardest trophy to win for a reason.
This. 2 elite teams going at it. Both these teams would be favorites if they were playing anybody else.

Cooper is not the problem, he is not on the hot seat, the bolts would be stupid to fire him.

Now that the Bolts are eliminated I'll say this - I don't think it's Cooper that needs to go. Seems like a revamp of the assistant coaches is in order though.

Funny thing is that I said maybe just a couple hours ago that I wouldn't mind giving Jeff Halpern a spin. Now I'd rather launch him into the sun.
