Is Jon Cooper on the hot seat?

If the Bolts lose tonight that would be 3 straight 1st round exits for Tampa, a team who has sold everything to be competitive now.

There were discussions/rumors floating around yesterday that Cooper is on the hot seat and both sides might part ways if this season ends with another early exit.

Cooper would probably be unemployed for 5minutes....especially when his home province Canucks have an open coaching spot.

There's also reports linking Cooper to Utah.

Interesting, he is looking at the head coaching job or something else?

I think if they don't come back it would make sense he look elsewhere, Tampa would be transitioning to a post Cup Penguins like team, making the playoffs but not winning any rounds. I don't think Utah makes sense because IMO Armstrong and Tourigny have done a very good job so I can't see either getting axed. Also it's Larry Brooks.

Doubt he's going anywhere. On paper TB is very average and their core isn't young. Think he's doing well with what he has.

If he does end up moving on it will be his choice because I don't see TB firing him.

Series also ain't over. Bet it goes 7 if they win tonight.

Regarding Tourigny he’s definitely at least earned another year to see if he can coach a team looking to turn the corner on its rebuild and make the playoffs again. Wouldn’t be surprised if he’s gone if Utah doesn’t make next year’s playoffs. Cooper would be great to bring in, but I don’t see it happening until after next season.

Next year is probably our best chance at making a run given that we'll finally be in a position to add to the roster rather than subtracting. We probably have 2 years of actually being a somewhat competitive team before we'll need to start full on rebuilding, would make absolutely no sense to move on from Cooper at this point.

Our issue is a roster construction issue not a coaching issue, which is a reality of winning in the flat cap world.

It's so funny how Marek was speculating on this exact situation as a hypothetical on his show and a day later we have Brooks coming in with one of his "sources"

TB was the top-scoring team in the league and had the second-highest point differential. Where is this whole thing coming from that they are an average team? They are in a playoff battle with another elite team and coming up a little short. That's just how it goes in the NHL playoffs. It's the hardest trophy to win for a reason.

I do not think he is on the hot seat for losing to arguably the best team in the league in the first round for the last two seasons.

If Cooper leaves, that would likely be his call. I don't see Brisebois getting rid of him.

If things don't go well next year, then maybe there is a conversation since his deal will be up. But I doubt he would touch a rebuilding team like Utah regardless of who he's friends with. He's really tight with Gretzky, I don't hear anyone saying he's going to Edmonton even though that would make way more sense for both sides.
