brind’amour scored almost 1,200 points, won a cup and is not in.
Either is butch goring who was another great 2-way player who won 4 cups including a playoff MVP.
JT is not either of those guys and shouldn’t get in.
I dont see how a player who has been top 15/20 once league wide for last 7 years is a deadlock for the HOF
If you look from 2019-now Tavares isnt a top 30 player.
Tavares has not been in discussion for the best players league wide in 8 years now.
He isnt a surefire guy who dominated the league. He is a compiler who is adding to his career points but isnt amongst the top 30 players league wide similar to a Giroux or Backstrom
Tavares counting stats just support he continues to compile pts for his career totals while being a non top 30 player in the league.
Tavares has zero playoff accolades, wasn't part of 2010, 2014 (injured in training camp) Olympics or even at the 4 nations tourny. I think he played the 2016 WCH which is the only best on best tourney he participated in. I dont think hell be on the 2026 Olympics team either.
Tavares intangibles hurt him, he's known to be a poor leader and captain both for the leafs and isles.
Tavares started out of the gate in his D+1 vs Giroux who was I think D+3 which will explain Giroux ending with ~1200 pts and Tavares with ~1350 pts. The flyers were slower to bring Giroux in due to having Richards and Carter vs Tavares who got put in right away due to isles having no one to let him play an additional season in the CHL.
I will admit Tavares at 19 was ahead by Giroux by a fair bit with Giroux closing gaps a lot to make their careers be pretty even at this pt.
Tavares was equal to Giroux in 2023, equal in 2024 and is better in 2025. They have been very comparable players for their careers on a season by season basis.
Tavares linemate argument also folds when his production got worse relative to league wide as scoring increased in 2019+ era when he played on high offensive leafs team.
A sure fire hall of famer is a Malkin, Kane, Crosby, OV from the 05 era (pre mcdavid era) stars
A 50/50 hall of famer as of now should be Tavares, Backstrom, Giroux as they were tier back of the above
You also have guys like Bergeron, Toews, Kopitar who will be viewed as better players than the 3 names above due to playoff success and defensive/intangible factors. Stamkos also falls somewhere in those 2 lower groups.
Tavares making the hall of fame isn't a terrible decision based on modern standards. He's better than Lowe, andreychuk, and a bunch of other guys.
But he is worse than Gilmour and Sundin for me and neither of them were tier 1 hall of famers either. The HOF should be more selective in my opinion. Less players should be getting in and less frequent inductions should be happening to increase validty and quality of HOF
i never said it. I dont think of JT as among the best in the league.Given with 8 more goals, he’ll hit a point where no eligible player is excluded (and he may have 4-6 seasons left), please list these players. Keeping in mind your personal criteria has no bearing on.
Does Tavares have a single award on his shelf? I didn’t think he had a Ross or Hart.W
But again why are you ignoring his 2 hart finalist seasons?
It’s the hockey hall of fame. Not all time greatest leaf.
He will score more goals and points than Sundin. Higher peak in terms of Ross and hart.
At 34 he is 500’ish goals and 1100 pts.
Probably 550-600 and 1300 ish points.
In a low scoring era for 10 years easy lock.
Does Tavares have a single award on his shelf? I didn’t think he had a Ross or Hart.
so he didn't win it.No. He missed the Ross by 1 point. He actually would have won. But he refused to take an assist that was awarded to him.
Either way.
He will be top 25 in goals and top 40 in points with a prime in a low scoring era.
He is top 10 in goals and points in the last 25 years despite being drafted in 2009.
Many players are in the hall with no individual awards. And 1 secondary assist in 2015 doesn’t change his stars
He didn't win a hart , rocket award, cup, and isn't a ppg player. He wasn't one of the best 5 players in the league at any point in his career for any period of time. He is an all-star, but not a HOF player.W

No kidding that’s 1600 pointsAmong eligible players, there isn’t a single player with 500 goals and 1100 assists that isn’t in the HOF.
That’s wrong right there lol, he never won a Hart, poster was correct. He was a 2 time hart finalist. So that’s wrong right there.

Here’s what you replied to,
He didn't win a hart.
Again why are you ignoring the caliber of player he was for an entire 7 of 16 years of his career?W

Tavares played overall in higher scoring team and era than Sundin for most of his career.
Tavares isnt a top 30 player league wide for his 28-34 year seasons. That is a big mark against him
If he had played the 28-34 seasons in the same environment and same caliber of team as Sundin DPE his career totals would be hurt and hed be less than 1000 pts right now.
Your looking at pure numbers and ignoring his league wide scoring. Tavares at 28-34 isnt a better player than he was from 19-27. His career is borderline/tier 3 hall of famer b/c he has had 2 careers
From 2009 - 2018 he was 9th in league scoring and ppg, easily a hall of famer. For reference Sidney Crosby age 31-37 is 11th in pts and 11th in ppg from 2019 - 2024 so he was as good as 31-37 Crosby who is still a hall of fame level player at his peak with the isles
From 2019 - 2024 he is 28th in scoring and 33rd in ppg, a non-hall of famer if this was his whole career. A player whose the 35th to 40th best player in the league won't be considered a surefire/strong hall of fame player.
You look at the two in aggregrate and you have a tier 3 hall of famer who will need to wait for superior players and get in on a weaker year to make the HoF
He was a 2 time hart finalist. So that’s wrong right there.
He is top 3-5 in points since he has been in the league.
Many players in the hall have not been 2 time hart finalists.
Really. How many players in the league were top 5 in the 80s?
With Gretzky and Lemieux…. You think only top 5 players in a 700 player league make the hall?
Really?
Since 2005. Crosby, ovy, malkin, Kane,
Then since 2015. McDavid. Matthews. MacKinnon, draistl?
Who are your other 2 hall of famers?
Because. Almost every player drops off like that after 28. NHL peak scoring is 24-27.
You are letting Crosby/ovy blind you.
Arbitrarily saying a person had 2 careers
Is pretty ridiculous.
He will be top 25 in goals. Top 50’in points. Huge international and junior career.
He will be in no problem.

He was a top 5 hart finalist twice, but won zero awards. That is a short stretch to even consider him to be a hof. He does break the list as a top 5 goal scorer since 2005, but I still not sure that is HOF level since he isnt in the top 5 in points. I just don't think he is a HOF based on production, hardware, or showing up when it counts. I would put Captain Cups Stamkos with personal hardware, ( huge decline this year and dip since his medical issues), Kucherov has put himself in a category with gretzky in playoffs and regular season only with Lemieux and Gretzky and back to back cups, and Hedman back to back cups and personal hardware in the HOF any day over him. I think he is an allstar and great player, but can't carry a team on his own and has no hardware to support he is the best of the best.

Mcdavid, Kucherov, Draisaitl, Mackinnon look like they will have no troubles at age 28 and older.
Datsyuk, Joe Thornton, MSL had no issues being elite in late 20s to mid 30s
Tavares fell off hard as a player at a very early age for the level of player he was considered at after 2018. This guy was viewed as a borderline top 10 player back then and people said he would only get better once he joined a high scoring leafs team. He did not and his playoffs became horrific as a leaf
Your focused on the counting stats without considering the level of player he was for his career.
Tavares being viewed as a surefire hall of famer shows 2 things
1) HoF is a joke with to lax stanaeds
2) The Crosby/OV era sucked outside of those 2 + malkin/kane. Such an insanely weak era of hockey if Tavares is being propped as one of best players from that era and a 100% lock hall of famer
No it’s not a criteria,He was a 2 time hart finalist.
To be clear. Is it your contention only hart winners get into the HHoF?
No it’s not a criteria,
I was just pointing out that you were wrong he did NOT win it, he was a finalist, nothing more.
Plus you even added a little chirp at the end, at the poster, the chirp was the only reason I responded.
When did the HoF become the Hall of Decent? No. He missed the Ross by 1 point. He actually would have won. But he refused to take an assist that was awarded to him.
