Speculation: Is J Toews looking to make a comeback this year?

Wouldn't he go through waivers at this point? I thought you had till like the end of December to sign people where they don't have to go through waivers.
No. Early december is the deadline for team RFAs who have held out

Teams are free to sign college UDFAs in season without waivers

A playoff team must sign him before TDL for him to play in playoffs.

He likely needs to put nhl games this season so he can show he can still play if he wants any contract beyond a PTIO/ lrague min

If an opportunity to play on a club with the goal being winning the Cup is what he's looking for and he has it in him to prove his doubters wrong, I'd welcome giving him a shot in the Oilers bottom 6. We have a hole at 4C, and if Toews is health enough to play he's a much better option even in a limited role then many will be willing to give him credit for. He how's what it takes to win. That alone makes him a better option than most as a teams 12th forward.

he's done bro
So was Connor Brown and Corey Perry.

Get this guy to Edmonton and he’ll find new life. Hockey Iq and character too good to fail in a 4C role. His physical ailments seem like the type where if he’s over them, he’s over them.

I forget who reported it about Toews a few weeks back but I remember the teams mentioned were Colorado Winnipeg and Toronto. If he's going to try coming back it would be on a playoff team signing a cheap one year deal so nothing to lose for one of these teams to give it a try.

I imagine whatever contract he is offered would be at minimum wage plus bonuses, so there is no risk for the team that he signs with. I'd be happy if he did choose Winnipeg, we could use that leadership, and I wouldn't be surprised if he's found a second wind that could help us out.
