Is it safe to say that USA-Canada is now the biggest rivalry in international hockey?

Sure they might be able to compete with sweden but if you include up and coming prospects Sweden has more depth there.

Depth remains to be verified. Russia has in any case, in the long term, a demographic potential indefinitely greater than Sweden, so by improving the effectiveness of training, Russia will necessarily double Sweden. Sweden is at its ceiling level, Russia is not.

You certainly have zero understanding of Canada.

Like none, zero.
1. Depth remains to be verified. Russia has in any case, in the long term, a demographic potential indefinitely greater than Sweden, so by improving the effectiveness of training, Russia will necessarily double Sweden. Sweden is at its ceiling level, Russia is not.

2. Czechia and Sweden have already won Olympic gold with NHL players.

3. I think it's Canadians who don't know anything about the world and are lulled by an illusion. The real politics of conquering states will take over. You see Russia clearly, you see USA clearly... so if you believe that China and India have no ambitions... If the Chinese government decides to annex Vancouver in 2065 - how do you think Canada will be able to oppose it ? What is happening to Ukraine will happen in the future and has existed throughout all previous centuries. It's called History.

I always thought of Canada vs Russia or Sweden vs Finland as the biggest hockey international rivalries as those two matchups go way back with another.

Canada and Russia are by far the two most successful hockey nations in history and their matchups have always given us some of the best hockey matchups we've ever seen for the last 60 years. With Sweden and Finland, they're both hockey passionate Nordic nations who have a regional rivalry spanning over the past millennia that transcends the sport itself. While the US was always there, they didn't truly become a contender in ice hockey until the 1990s

However, it seems like the USA-Canada matchup is now firmly #1...would you say this is a general consensus? And if so, when would you say this became the biggest rivalry?

It’s been the biggest rivalry in hockey since at least 1996.

Post-Cold war, the Russians have fielded one noteworthy team in best-on-best, and that was 1998, with zero memorable moments involving Canada or the US.

Or one, depending on how you view the blowout in 2010.

Man you are really out to lunch, Canada isn't getting annexed by anyone and if they ever were to be annexed it wouldn't be by China or India, like zero chance.

Are you okay?

Seriously asking here.

I'm talking about the future. Demographics are changing very quickly. In a Canada where the population will be predominantly Chinese and Indian (and this will be the case in the coming decades) - many things will change. You have to look further than 2025. Imagine how the world has changed since 1925. Then 2125 - the world map will have changed dramatically.

Look at the Native American Nations. When Europeans became more numerous than them, it was the end of their society and it was the Europeans who imposed their laws.

Good satire dude.

What are you smoking or drinking dude?

The population demographics show no such thing in the next few decades, perhaps in several hundred years but we have this weird thing in Canada called assimilation, you might want to do some reading first.

Now you are talking about something completely different here.

Do you mean Indigenous people?
Canada, like the USA, is a country of immigrants. Pride in Hockey (and Tim Hortons) is what all the people have in common. More kids will play hockey and dream of scoring team Canada's championship winner like McDavid just did.

Stay in your illusions. Everything is written on Wikipedia though. Go to the Canada demographics page.

I believe I spoke about the Native American nations. Canada and the USA destroyed these nations with the exponential number of settlers

Sure, but that has nothing to do with Canada being the best hockey nation.

The initial subject that led me to say this was Canadians' fear of being integrated into the USA.

It would make no difference to the lives of Canadians to remove the American border.

Still. Makes no sense. Imo the US are making excuses for losing to Canada again. It’s now 11-1 in best on best wins. Canada is king at hockey.

Exactly, poster is in the wrong thread or something 😂
I think the poster just might be on a fishing trip up north.

The entire 20th century Canada was alone in the world. Now USA is almost at the same level and will move ahead.

I have already explained the demographic logic. Fewer and fewer licensees in Canada, more and more in the USA.

Younger population in the USA.

In 4 decades we have gone from a full Canadian NHL to an NHL where Canadian players only represent 40% of NHL players and 30% of new players.

Not very complicated to understand that Canada will lose its place as king of hockey before 2050

Struggling to cope still I see.

Look at the list of NHL players and the list of drafted players and compare to 2000.
Go look at the draft center pages for the next 3 years on elite prospects plenty of great young Canadian talent in the pipeline coming up.

So in 200 years then maybe and your assumption is that some 5th generation Canadian of Chinese or Indian sub continent descendants is going to help annex Canada?

You are so out of you league here.

1. Yeah 30% of NHL players of this generation will be Canadian

2. In 200 years Canada will probably not have existed for a long time. Countries are born and die. Canada did not exist 200 years ago. Open a history book to any period or region.

2. 200 years ago Canada didn't even exist. It is almost certain that the majority of Euro-descendants in North America will be Amish and Mennonites whose population doubles every 20 years. It won't be the same world as today.

Lots of countries will disappear, and others will be born.
Stay on topic dude, it’s not hard. Seems like your really struggling today with Canada’s win. Get over it, the sun will still come up tomorrow.

As if I gave a damn between USA and Canada. As a Frenchman, I am neutral. I am for sports logic.

Objectively, USA will be better than Canada in the future. That's all.
