Post-Game Talk: Is it a cruel irony that PDO was created by an Oilers fan?

Coming in here to give my boy Bouch a plug.

Congrats on playing another game with prime PP time and keeping the goal-less streak alive. 47GP, 0PPG

Please explain. It was a full on screen by a giant right in the blue paint.

The 3rd goal is the one to save.

The first 2 were both legit
No that's what Louis said. On the replay he was not in Skinner's line of sight unless Skinner wasn't looking at the guy about to shoot the puck. It was an open shot he got beat on. Very weak.

Unless the puck hits him (or the post) he is not good at tracking shots from distance.

Didn't see the game but this was seemed to turn out just as the fancy stats said it would.

Washington shoot lights out and gets great goaltending.
Edmonton shoots muffins and gets poor goaltending.

I kind of see 3-2 games a slice down the middle. Stu Skinner and the offense deserve equal blame.
The Oilers really need to find a way to bury their chances, 2 goals on all the chances they had is just as embarrassing/reason for the loss as the goaltending.

We just don't know how to hold a group as a whole accountable for it unlike goaltending.

The Oilers are a great team with 2 weaknesses.
1. sub par goaltending
2. sub par finishing.

They add up to what is a pdo/fancy stat nightmare. I've seen them have bad goaltending.. but I've never seen a team create so much and have so little to show for it. Even when they win.

That 2nd goal was pathetic. If SKinner just drops into a butterfly, where he already was, it just hits his pad. He doesn't even attempt to drop until it's too late. I don't even know what he was doing.

HILARIOUSLY bad. "Screened" lol, guy sees the shot the whole way.

Will love to see how the Skinner family spins this one as not Moustache's fault.

Frustrating to watch. They had all that pressure in the final 2 minutes with a 6 on 4 and they refused to shoot the puck towards the net until there was 40 seconds left. Would have been nice to have seen those final moments of intensity earlier in that power play but thats this teams issue.

Rob Brown on GYB had a great observation - after being 6 on 4 for over a minute the puck cleared, but the Capitals didn't change their D. They were still fresh.

Why? Not only was it pass happy, they held the puck high in the zone and ripped it around the umbrella the entire time. The entire benefit of being 6 on 4 is the ability to easily outnumber low and in the slot, but they were totally fine just passing around waiting for the one timer from distance that just wasn't there.

5v5 we did a really good job getting to the net, but the moment we get the man advantage we stand around, stare at each other, then wonder why the puck got turned over.

The Oilers are really terrible 6 on 5. Or 6 on 4 in this case. It would almost be wiser to deliberately take a penalty to make it 5 on 5.

Skinner finished this game off, but Arvidsson got it going.

Prior to that incredibly stupid drop pass, we generally had things in pretty good control. Felt like a game where we would find another one before the end of the first on the way to a victory. Then he chooses to do that. They tie it, they get a bit of life, then we expose ourselves to losing.

The air head giveaway at the offensive blue line when we have control of the game is a cancer at the moment. Terrible habit that needs to be weeded out.

yup.

also, I thought that 2nd goal was pathetic, but what was just as pathetic was Bouchards attempt to even box out Protas or whoever that guy was. We barely even do that. It's like we are immune to screening the other goalies. We would rather jump out of the way and way for some far rebound to the side.

Yeah that pass from rv was terrible. Elevate Kapanen into his spot.

Been an issue for a fairly large number of games. Only thing the media brings up is the defense which has been pretty great the whole year.

Exactly right. Louis' commentary was incorrect.

The replay showed that the players were NOT in Skinners line of sight. They may have obscured the pass to the point from whence the shot came, but he had a good look at the shooter. He simply wasn't ready and it went right through him as he was too late to drop.

Bowman needs to start earning his pay, this f*** around with the edges of the roster bull isn't going to cut it. Team needs a competent goalie now. Not at the deadline, not next week, now.
Not really. This is solidly a playoff team. There's no reason not to wait until the deadline to accrue cap space.

Those people live in an alternate reality.

Earlier in this thread, someone asked which goal he was at fault for. I said this one, and he replied with "DURRR HE WAS SCREENED".

Oh yeah, dumbass???? Look at this clip, and try to make that excuse now.

It is inexcusable to get beat clean like he was on this goal.

The Oilers NEED an upgrade in net. With average quality goaltending this team is way up in the standings.

Instead Sewer Skinner keeps shitting the bed and costing the team points.

Ooof...

I'm known to defend goalies, but that's just ugly. He was completely distracted by the traffic in front and completely lost his concentration.

That's the only explanation and that's just not acceptable. It does happen to everyone sometimes, but that's just... a mentally tired goalie. He was not concentrating on the moment.

Part of the job is fighting around traffic and if the first look you try to get is blocked (it would have been prior to the shot) you actively try 2-3 more sightlines until you find one. He just deflated and gave up on that play.

Clean field of vision and direct line of sight to the shooter.

Skinner's complete inability to track pucks or read a play cost this team another 2 points.
