November: 89.8% in 9 games
December: 91.3% in 9 games
January: 91.0% in 7 games so far. But even that’s a bit misleading, as he’s yet to have a game within 20 points of that number (so between .890 and .930) this month. He’s been completely feast or famine.
Skinner had a string of 6 solid weeks to get his SV% back to .900, but since then he’s back to being inconsistent af.
He’s the epitome of Russian roulette in net; and that’s not what a team with cup aspirations needs going into the playoffs.

He was nothing special IMO but at his best he was a lot better than Stu.
So many people want us to get a goalie. Does that mean that they don't need us to get an upgrade on the blueline?

Vegas is on a four game losing streak so I don't know what would make someone think they are about to go on a heater.
By that logic we could assume Skinner is about to go on a heater as well
Idk man, I got a bad feeling about this upcoming stretch. Things have been far too good.
Off ghe post rebound… you make it sound like ov walked in untouched from the slot and made an unbelievable shot off the post. When in reality it was a weak shot that went right through skinner. Also, breakaway is being very generous. Basically any real chance went through skinner tonight. Add on an absolutely brutal floater from the point and it was a horrible night for him.

Osgood was fairly mediocre, but he was consistent. He never stole you games, but he also rarely had an off night and was the reason you lost. For about 12 years he just went out and made the saves he had to make, nothing more or less.
Skinner reminds me more of Emery back with the Sens. Okay goalie on a powerhouse team, won the starting job because Gerber shat the bed, and actually got to the cup final. But even back then you could always see the kinks in the armour; the team around him just managed to cover for them.
But eventually teams saw those kinks and started to exploit them. Though Emery was also a headcase and sped run his way off the Sens.
I get the same feeling with Skinner, as the week-to-week consistency just isn't there. As I wrote above, he’s the epitome of Russian roulette in net.

Meh. 9th straight game in a different time zone, no 97 and playing the runaway 2024-25 PDOcouver Memorial Trophy champions.
They looked gassed again, could barely string two passes together, but they still deserved a better result.

It was embarrassing. The kind of thing we’ve seen in the past from Blue Jays fans in Toronto.
Dusty is focused on convincing everyone Skinner is worth a huge raise and extension.

How do you mean? Their offense wasn't great tonight, they didn't push hard enough for better opportunities. Stu was flat out not good enough, but neither was the finishing.

This team really doesn’t have enough scoring power outside of McDavid and Draisatl. The new forwards are downright useless if not detrimental, and RNH/Hyman don’t produce without McDavid. And then there’s the bottom six… where offense goes to die.

It's a significant concern I will agree, it's why I'm big on adding another good forward, honestly more than a defenseman.

I'm a bit bored of PDO talk tbh. At least in the sense that it's attributed to luck.
1) Better goaltending (save%) increases your PDO
2) The Oilers have been among the worst teams in the league at converting scoring opportunities for several seasons running
Across an 82 game season, which involves about 2000 shots for and against, it's about statistically impossible to have a high PDO due to mere luck. It's due to good goaltending, limiting quality opportunities, generating quality opportunities, and capitalizing on opportunities relative to shots for and against. PDO will decide individual games. You don't have a high PDO across an entire season due to luck alone.

I don't even think they had 2 proper scoring or rather even high damger chances all game yet Skinner let in 3 and has himself another sub par .750 save percentage. Everyone talking about getting a 1B goalie when we don't even have a 1A ffs
I can't beleive i see people still defending Skinner. People if Skinner was FKING average all season with a sub .900 average we would be running away with the president's trophy this season the team has been that good since November......

They basically had a wide open net in the second period and couldn't bury it. Lots of overly cute plays too. There was one I remember where RNH made a nice pass to a player at the top of the circles, and in their infinite wisdom decided to pass it back to RNH. Completely murdered the play. The Oilers don't play simple hockey, and I think that's part of the reason they lack finish.

Goal 2 was pretty bad tbh. He kind of looked like he was playing dodgeball on that one. If you don't see the point shot get into your butterfly. He did some awkward lunge to his right that I don't know I've ever seen before by a goalie on a point shot.
Thompson made some good saves, but he was a bit of a rebound adventure all night. End of the day Oilers had the chances to win this one despite Skinners mediocre to bad performance and just didn't have it last night with the finishing. Really not liking the lack of consistency still in Skinner's game and they need another solid goalie for the playoffs or they're just gambling that he won't shit the bed despite doing it in multiple playoff series the past 2 years when they realistically could have won the cup.

No one is claiming that PDO is entirely attributable to luck, only that its extreme outliers are so improbable to sustain and repeat that you can attribute such a team's extreme success or failure, at least in big part, to luck.
Sure, the Canucks played well last year, but the production of many of their players was highly improbable compared to other players on other teams with similar ice time and that generated a similar amount of chances. This year that has corrected itself and the Canucks are mediocre despite having largely the same roster.
This year nobody expected the Caps to be this high up the standings and it's the same thing. Let them, like the Canucks, regress to middle-of-the-pack PDO and they will fall through the standings despite having similar underlying numbers.
Some people (like Canucks fans) might attribute this to gambler's fallacy, but that is not correct. No one is saying that because you were lucky one year or extended stretch of games, you will be unlucky the next. Only that you will regress toward the mean, which you will.
But the crux of the biscuit isn't just that it contains an extended run of fortuitous results; it is obviously that it is extremely frustrating to lose to such a team, especially since the fans of said team will typically rub it in and claim it's, in fact, not luck which comes across as a toxic cocktail of smirk and delusion.

yeah, griping their sticks too much that they arent in front of the net and let 2 cpaitals skate to a loose puck just above the crease to tap it in.
