Post-Game Talk: Is it a cruel irony that PDO was created by an Oilers fan?

Or worse, a player steps in it and gets injured. Drai was in the ice there. Just what we would have needed.
Of course. Its pretty dangerous. Especially the cardboard. Could wipe out or hyperextend pretty easily on that. Seems like some people have never been to games before, have never played before and don't know that is completely unacceptable.

Yet another year where the Oilers get the absolute least out of players not named McDavid or Draisaitl. Too many years of playing the 'pass the puck to McDrai' game has caused the bottom 6 to be completely anemic. Somewhat a personnel issue, but there is something much more pervasive going on. I'd wager it's usage and deployment, but I don't have the time nor effort to look into it more.

Enough players have come here, underperformed, then gone back to normal after leaving that it is not a coincidence.
Something in the water...

Man, Hyman is just a complete nothing without McDavid. He's a great guy but without McDavid you barely know he's there. And the bottom six is always a blackhole. Year after year of no depth scoring.

This was a game where they needed to get some secondary scoring. It just didnt happen.
RNH, Hyman, Skinner, Arvidsson et al...were offensive no shows for most of the game.

The Caps showed how to be efficient with offensive opportunities.
The Oilers showed the exact opposite especially with Thompson leaking out so many rebound chances. The Caps did collapse down really well and made it more difficult but the Oilers need to win some puck battles there and actually finish.
Then there is Bouchard...man when he is off he is AHL level off. Couldnt do anything right and the only consistent thing he did all night was hit Podkolzin with his shot.
Its fine if Bouchard has the odd off game but his off games cant be that brutal.
Inexcusable.
The PP looked completely out of sync and part of that was Bouchard.
Knoblauch made a smart move putting Ekholm out there in his place late in the game but it wasnt enough.
They really need to prioritize running the PP sans McDavid at practice.

On a lighter note...the nachos should get an assist on the Perry goal. I cant ever remember seeing that happen before...lol

I was told here a few games back that Hyman was a line driver. I love Hyman but he’s clearly no line driver.

He scored a huge goal against the Avs but Bouchard has just seemed off in the offensive zone this year. He really needs to pick it up heading into the playoffs

He was when he first got here. Was a pure energy guy and a hound on the forecheck. Might be worth putting him with Podkolzin for a few games to see if he can get that back.

I’m pretty impressed that we kept the best team in the league (statistically speaking as Washington is a paper tiger waiting to crumble) to 14 shots without McDavid to boot. If this game was any indication, we need some insurance in net (deal Pickard and bring in a goalie who can push Skinner at the least)

Ah Nachos. Carrying on the fine broken stick tradition of inanimate objects working hard for the Oilers.

He’s been stapled to McD, how is he a line driver? Because he forechecks? Lmao

That's a tough pill.

Sorry but this one is squarely on Skinner. Three against in 10 shots, 14 total all game. He shows up, we get at least a point. On every goal against he either barely moved or literally didn't move.
Has a line of vision on goal one easily if he's alert and gets beaten along the ice from the point before he even reacts. Like come on.
Second goal is a 2 on 1 granted, but my goodness the pass side of the net was basically completely unoccupied, what a delayed push across.
Third goal was embarrassing. Player's loose fine, but like five hole from that tight at that bad angle for the shooter? And then losing the puck after that, no reaction whatsoever? You don't hear your post or look behind you? The disengagement was ridiculous.

Thompson at the other end, despite giving up tons of rebounds, found a way to cover pucks, push them out, direct them down into himself. Frustrating to watch. We created enough overall to win.

Couple other draggers that hurt us tonight, Bouchard and Nuge asleep at the wheel on the powerplay. Routine passes getting turned over in the offensive zone. Bouch didn't hit the net nearly enough on his blasts, poor Podkolzin got the gift twice. Was a good adjustment to put Ekholm on the PP this game. Another glitch was none of our wingers really pounced on those many rebounds.

Was a good effort given the situation. End of the day, this is (another) one of those Skinner games that lost us 2 points. That's 3 in a row by him with early 3 spots to the opposition (Col, Van, Wsh). After a pretty good run of 6 or 7 games, the bad version appears to be taking hold again where at least 3 sneak through, that too early and often.

And my ref complaint of the day: BS non-call on Arvidsson and BS call on Emberson. Game management BS per usual.

Back to back regulation L's sting hard. First place is so effing elusive for this team, just not fair.

Or, hear me out. Their goaltender makes a save and doesn't post a .780

That was their problem tonight, goaltending, then anything else.

Think it’s funny we’ve got whole paragraph breakdowns of this game and somehow some people (not you obviously) don’t even mention that the opposing goalie put on a clinic and ours made 11 saves.

Gimme either Gibson or Vejmelka, I beg.

Skinner is basically 18W-14L despite backstopping a juggernaut club, one of the best teams in the league that would have an even much better record if they had a competent #1. Meanwhile Pickard who we just picked out of nowhere rocking 11-4 and two of the losses were the Oilers being shut out. So that in games where the Oilers actually scored Pickards record is a tidy 11-2.

Skinners record prorates to a third place in division finish. He's givng us basically no margin in the standings.

Ask yourself how a goalie could even have 14losses halfway into the season with this club in front of him. Its inexplicable. Most goalies on a team this good would have a sizzling Win/Loss record, like even Pickard is doing. A starter on a team as good as this should be around 25-7 at this point. No worse than 22-10
