You ask for proof, and yet you're pretty clearly ignoring just about every logical argument that suggests its truth and instead choosing to stick to the lazy defense of "it's just my opinion", which isn't something that can stand on its own when it comes to objective claims rather than subjective preferences.
 
He kept up with Olympic sprinters, it’s on YouTube somewhere. As much as post 1995 birth dates want to not believe, Gretzky was an incredible athlete with a genius level intelligence in regards to hockey. There is a reason no one in 100 years if NHL hockey has come close to his major records across all eras. He is the GOAT, Crosby and McDavid have nothing on him except better knowledge on training and superior playing equipment.

Gretzky's skating reminds me a lot of Johnny Gaudreau. Not the fastest guys but they never seem to get caught. Not the biggest guys but they are shockingly strong on the puck. And because of their anticipation, they very rarely are put in situations where they need to put the pedal down.

Obviously both guys were blessed with outrageous edge control and agility, but for guys with slight builds, it's kind of a requirement.

That’s my point? You can’t compare players from different eras in any sport (in my opinion)

There’s no “proof” that he would or wouldn’t dominate in today’s game. I just believe you wouldn’t even know who he was if he were to play the game today.

We can go into his statistics from 30+ years ago but it doesn’t really mean much? To me at least.

That's not what you said before at all, you said he wouldn't be good today, you didn't say you didn't know if he would be good today. Nice backtrack though.

I'm embarrassed to read your posts, from the constant "nahhhhh bruhhhh" to the refusal to engage in any form of logical argument. Do you think Peter Forsberg or Jaromir Jagr would be good in today's game? Well Gretzky kept pace with them when they were in their prime and Gretzky was an old broken down man. These "Gretzky wouldn't have been a 4th liner today" type arguments are the most naïve posts written on this board.

To put it simply he was ahead of his time. None of his peers could read the play like he could. His point totals are impressive not because of how high they are, but by how nobody in his era could even come close. A popular put down is that "gretzky was only good because goalies were terrible, players weren't good defensively, etc". Then why didn't anyone else take advantage of that? They weren't good enough, he was.

There's no argument to be made that he wouldn't either, he was significantly better than Jagr and yet Jagr did fine in today's NHL. Why wouldn't Gretzky? He was able to match Jagr on the decline of his career while Jagr was entering his prime.
 
Side note - Gordie Howe was obviously a big fella and its quite amazing he had that kind of size given he grew up during the Great Depression in the middle of nowhere Saskatchewan.

Gretzky wasn't just generational, he's the best player to ever play the game.

Not sure how thats underwhelming in any way
 
He'd be centering the Habs 4th line if he was active in today's NHL. Not through any fault of his own. Habs are just that stacked.
 
Back in the day, one of my coaches was going off about players on my team working out to get a beach body, but neglecting their legs. He then shouted, "have you ever seen Gretzky with his shirt off? It's embarrassing!"
 
The term generational referring to exceptional professional hockey players just came out in the 2000's. When Gretzky played, no one ever used "Generational". A generation is about 20 years, though I think 15+ years makes a difference in perception and belief large enough to be on opposite sides when discussing certain social topics.
