Is Eric Lindros the most jacked and skilled NHL player of all time?

Mind boggling whenever I see this pick. How freaking big are his arms?

This all before protein, creatine, HGH etc.. too. Did he do this on Whiskey and Sirloin Steaks?

Harry Sinden tells a great Howe story.

In 1966 at Bruins training camp during an exhibition against the Red Wings there was a scrum in front of the Bruins bench. As the players squared off a Boston rookie by the name of Derek Sanderson grabbed Gordie Howe and was heard to say 'one false move old man and your career is over'

Howe just stared at him and smiled.

The entire Bruins bench busted out laughing. While Coach Sinden yelled ' get on the bench before he ******* kills you!'.

Now that is a great classic Turk story

Rod "The Beak" Brind'Amour was always pretty jacked and looked like he ate a lot of beef

Raitis Ivanans also wolfed down some steers but of course neither of them came close to Lindros' skill set.

Surprisingly, Mike Richter was pretty jacked back in the day. Not many people realize how in shape you have to be to be a professional at any sport (-Darts, Baseball and the other pretend sports).

I think he said he got built up by working on concrete sidewalks during the summer in SASK. So, physical labor, basically. Hull used to work on his farm.

Lindros and Howe were both monsters. Strong as hell.

Chara is the same. He's ripped at 260.
At 40 years old in training camp he blew away the rest of the team on pull ups.

Having low body fat does not mean your jacked. Chara is not even in the same discussion. Take a look at the Brindamour picture..

When I see pictures of prime Eric Lindros it amazes me how great of a skater he was and his speed for how big he was. There is very few NHL players I can think of that look more like football players than hockey players and Eric Lindros is definitely the most skilled out of them. It would be insane to see how more athletic he would be coming up today with the improved training and equipment. Old guys like Thornton who have slowed down are still hard to knock off the puck even today. With the way the NHL rules are today I don’t anyone would be stopping a prime Eric Lindros. He is a guy that would probably transition to today’s hockey better than any former legend besides Lemieux from when he played due his size and athleticism. Why aren’t we seeing players like him in today’s hockey when hockey players are supposed to be getting bigger and more athletic.

No

From a physical stand point one of Rod the Bod, Scott Stevens, Marty St Louis jump to mind

and from a skill point of view--He could not keep his head and that in itself is a key with talent--the fact that he could not keep his head up hurt him greatly

Yeah Chara is kind of the new-age sports body, which might actually be more conductive to playing sports for a long time. He's leaner, trimer, longer etc...

Guys in the other pictures here are just totally yakked.

His combination of skill and size was generational, as was Chara

Chara is an athlete but he was not a hockey player at the start of his career. The Senators spent a lot of time working on his skating to work his game up.

Lindros was a natural born hockey god

To the OP, yes. Lindros was a bull. Whenever people ask me about Lindros I say this: imagine creating the perfect player in a video game--huge, solid skater, good puckhandler, good shot, great hitter. Lindros was all of the above. The dude is a genetic freak with an all-world skillset. There may never be another player like him.

I may give you Rod the Bod, but I think Lindros was more of a physical specimen than the other two. Granted MSL has legs like tree trunks and Stevens took Lindros out, but people often overlook that EL pushed Stevens around too. They had a nice ongoing rivalry. As far as physical stature, EL trumps Stevens

Yes.. You can pull up multiple pictures with that type of body

Was an awesome player for sure. To bad injuries derailed his career, guy could have been a top 10 player all time had he stayed healthy.

Jacked in terms of muscle hypertrophy stemming from strenuous workouts followed by overeating and whatnot? In that case, there were probably many guys who were closer to bodybuilders.

If on the other hand you mean heavy-boned, overflowing with testosterone and a natural strength (look at Eric's wrists! They're thicker than many men's forearms!), then he does have a case. He radiated strength. The natural one. The functional one.

I think it was Ray Ferraro that said he couldn't even work out too much or he would get too big lol

Yeah that's a huge risk in hockey. You want to be physically strong, but you don't want to bulk up so much that you lose speed or agility.

Someone like mackinnon bulked the right way. Physically imposing but fast as a laser. Or Crosby. He has arms the size of my legs.

Yes, Lindros had the best combination of size, skill, and strength in NHL history thus far.

He could dangle through you or just run you over. Whatever he felt like doing at the time. He would flatten centers off of faceoffs just because.

Not sure about darts, I've seen it on t.v before and the best guys were nearly obese old men.
