Is David Pastrnak the best scorer in the league?

Bruins had the second most goals in the league 2 years ago. I get that the offense was spread out, but you’re still getting a ton of zone time. I doubt he’d be scoring 25 more points just because he’s playing with a better Marchand. I think the point totals of elite players are a lot less impacted on those around them than than assumed.

The offense was very much not spread out 2 years ago. It was Pastrnak carrying the load

Pastrnak had 61 goals, 2nd best had 27
Pastrnak had 113 points, 2nd best had 67

I meant spread out beyond Pastrnak. Ie. He wasn’t playing with anyone else scoring a bunch, but the team had a lot of depth scoring.

..no, and now I feel like we’re taking his accomplishment too far the other way.

Someone is gonna score, and with how Boston is set up a majority of the goals have gone through Pasta. If he’s on a better squad the scoring is likely more spread out.
Someone should tell Chicago and Anaheim that “someone is gonna score”.

There’s no way Pastrnaks totals dont improve playing with someone who knows how to pass at a high level.

Hes not the leagues best scorer, but he’s up there

If you can believe it, he had a very slow start to the season this year. Shame he couldn't carry his late season pace from October-April, his numbers would have been even better

David Pastrnak has 106 points this season, 43 goals and 63 assists, on a VERY terrible Bruins team.
He has very little help, in fact, the 2nd place Bruins point player is Morgan Geekie with 53 pts.
Everyone else in the scoring leader list has a teammate on/near the list too.

Kucherov-Hagel
McDavid-Draisaitl
Mackinnon-Makar
Marner-Nylander

I wonder how many points Pasta would have if he was on TOR, EDM, COL, TBL, VGK etc...

So is he in a league of his own?
You always have to look at the flip side, on a better team with better players, there is only so many goals to go around, better team will score more goals, but the load is shared more. This isn't black and white of course, just suggesting there are two ways to look at things.

I've seen certain guys discussed being on powerhouse teams and that player is leaving to another team where he is going to be the man and therefore skyrocket in terms of scoring. The argument against that, of course, if you are the only guy, the other team can focus more on shutting you down and not worry too much about others. No real right answer here.

All that said.....based on eye test though....no, other guys look more potent to me.

It’s like you’ve completely forgotten about Ryan Donato and it’s weird.

Obviously Pasta is better than anyone on either of those squads, but it’s possible that with another talent some of the offense starts filtering through that other guy. As is pretty much all their scoring plays involve Pasta- each bad team is different in their own way, I just don’t think you can assume things here.

We will find out next season when he demands a trade to the Oilers ;)

He may not be in a league of his own but he is on a team of his own where no one else likes to score and he is the default go to guy.

If I were him I’d tell the bruins to immediately surround me with a legit top 6 or trade me cause as one of the best offensive players of his generation his prime is getting wasted. He’s right below McDavid/Draisaitl/Mackinnon/Kucherov in terms of forwards and he’s a step above guys like Panarin, Marner, Rantanen and Point.

Ovechkin scored 50 goals and 100+ points playing with Chris Clark.

Linemates generally don't seem to matter that much in hockey. You might get a 10 point boost with better linemates but guys generally seem to score what they deserve.
They do matter is a sense that McDavid might get 180 pts playing with Makar and Rants on that 2022 Avs team, but people are undervaluing the lines Pasta has, he’s playing with pretty decent NHL players. Nothing like what’s going on in Chicago.

I'm sure he is. I haven't heard much talk about his horrible defensive play this year.
I gen you’re scoring 60g/110+pts you’re clearly forgiven for your defensive game. Ask just about every single high scoring forward to ever exist

We will see when the oilers trade for him :)

Yes, this.

Really good bracketing/tiering there. Hes closer to the McD/Drai/MAC/Kuch level then the panarin/etc level

Showed he gives a shit too in last years playoffs

Pasta is a lock top 10 best player

I think every other elite scorer gets the benefit of a better team so...maybe? He's towards the top that's for sure.

Bold move to post this thread round about the same time Ovechkin breaks Gretzky's record -- gotta give you props for being so ballsy.

Oh yeah, a 28 year old Pastrnak finished with 43 goals in the same season a 39 year old Ovechkin also had 43 goals in only 64 games (55 goal pace).

So, a big fat "NO" is my answer to your question.
