Guys like Crosby and McDavid won the Hart and Art Ross Trophies at his age. There is no comparison.

And people will bring up Nathan MacKinnon not becoming a superstar until a bit later in his career, but MacKinnon has easy size, speed and strength advantages.
Check out the supporting casts of Crosby/McDavid compared to what Bedard has

Can you tell me what Kucherov did in the NHL at 19 while you’re at it?

Is not even as good as the guy picked first overall a season after, and he might not be the best player in his own draft class.
And his career is already determined?

Just because your expectations and the media expectations were for him to score 120 pts in his 2nd season, now you're disappointed?

Compared to how the media hyped him up, yes.

I think most people who saw him play and didn't let the media influence their opinion, no.

He's still a great player, I just never saw the hype the media was pushing outside his shot.

I also think he will be someone who figures it out more a couple years after joining the NHL, kind of like Jack Hughes.

He needs to continue gaining strength and to find what his game is going to be. He also needs a lot more help from the outside. The Blackhawks need to get their shit together and start icing a semi-competitive roster around him.

Foligno is a nice veteran to protect him, but I think Bedard would really benefit from having an older star player to learn from. I think Kane would've been a great mentor if he had stayed in Chicago.

Bedard is a disappointment if someone expected him to be Crosby or McDavid, and he was never going to be that. The funny part is that if he was still in junior (or the NCAA or whichever) he would be torching those leagues to crazy degrees, torching the WJC, and everyone would fantasize about him and like him more than the player he actually is, a guy not all that far from a point per game on a putrid NHL team at 19.

Anyway, it depends on expectations.

Kucherov was a second round pick. It’s a miracle that he turned out to be as good as he is.
oh so you mean to tell me that players develop in non linear ways and there’s a ton of context needed? Imagine that!

You brought up Hughes earlier. Bedard blew him out of the water in his first two seasons, while playing on a vastly worse team.

Why is Hughes considered better then?

Hughes is a way better skater, has better hands and also isn’t inept defensively

I guarantee you Foljgno could score 30 goals on a line with McDavid
No player on Edmonton outside of McDavid and Drasaitl are on pace for 30 goals

But sure, Foligno definitely would (he’s scored 30 once… a decade ago).

So why was he so much worse his first two seasons then?

He is overrated for sure. Great shot but lacks intensity. He's soft and small. I don't think he will have a superstar/franchise player career. I think he will be a 1C star player like a Brayden Point.

Bedard has definitely been worse than I expected. So yeah, disappointing. We’ll see how he looks next year. If he doesn’t take big steps forward both offensively and defensively I’ll start to really question his ceiling.

He definitely doesn’t look like an elite superstar so far. Definitely hasn’t reached the McDavid/Crosby-level hype he had and isn’t looking like a future top 5 player. I know he’s only 19, but he hasn’t looked like a dominant player like we thought he would. He has a horrid plus/minus, is under a PPG, and hasn’t even hit the 20 goal mark, yet. He’s tied for 43rd in scoring. He’s a liability defensively and on the dot. He gets easily pushed off the puck and isn’t very fast. He’s was also left off Canada’s 4 Nations Roster and I doubt he makes the Olympic team in Milan next year. Right now, Macklin Celebrini, not Bedard, looks like the star of the future. I’m not even sure he reaches Jack Hughes-level.
Your post says it all… obviously he is a huge disappointment… for every crosby we have a couple of daigles and bedards…

He is under a PPG. Elite superstars don’t go under a PPG.

So is Macklin Celebrini.

Put him on any of about 25 other teams in the league and he is well over ppg.

Wait another year or two for him to grow up and for Hawks to build better around him and he will be ppg+.

If you don't want to do that, I repeat, we will take him off your hands.

Has he lived up to the hype? Probably not. could anyone have? Probably not.
