If he played in a Canadian market his flaws would have been exposed a long time ago. Absolutely amazing offensive dman though. The new Karlsson

Who is the overwhelming favorite to win the awards every year? At forward, it’s McDavid. On defense, Makar has probably been the favorite the last several years, but not the overwhelming favorite. Fox, Hughes, those guys are not far behind. If Makar starts dropping 100 points per season we can revisit.

No player is perfect. However, Makar is the clear best Dman in hockey, playing in Canada wouldn't change that.

I just meant when Karlsson was a Sen, with Hughes in Vancouver, Bouchard, Nurse, Rielly, etc... People would have been a lot quicker to point out his flaws if he was in one of our markets and the narrative wouldn't have ever been he was Bobby Orr 2.0 or whatever.

Like I said, fantastic offensive dman.

Makar is better than all these players listed defensively though. He is not big so that limits the shutdown aspects, but he is one of the more complete Dmen out there who also puts up PPG every season.

Yes totally comparable . Sounds like someone who assume a defenseman can’t play defense because he’s on the smaller side and puts up points

So we are now 13% of the way through the season and a defenseman leads the league in scoring currently on pace for 142 points. Avs goalies cant stop a beachball, but at least Avs fans have something to cheer for until 5 of their top 9 returns.

Im sure after a couple games maybe or a handful it has happened, but I dont believe any dman has held that title, even if briefly, since Orr. Even Karlsson in 22-23, while he dominated dmen, was still way behind the Oilers duo all season long.
