Is Brock Boeser's agent overplaying their hand?

I read that his career high shooting percentage last season was because of Tocchet's top secret shooting % boosting system.

He's probably just going through a slump and will be back to shooting 20% in no time.

I don’t believe you. I didn’t see a single fan suggest he wasn’t running hot last year and a lot suggested trading him in the off-season to maximize value because he wasn’t worth a potential new contract. But, if he shot the same as he’s shooting now last year, he would have still have had 32 goals. And if he shot his career shooting percentage he would have had 28. He’s shown he can be a 30ish goal scorer (per 82) when he’s playing well, but he’s played like crap since coming back from his concussion. And it’s now 4 of the last 6 years he’s played like crap. If anyone gives him a bigger contract than what was offered they’ll regret it

Why do people always insinuate that players are puppets of the agent? If the agent presents the offer and gives some pros/cons on potential options if he waits until July 1st and the player says he doesn't want to sign, that's the player's decision.

Never understood the hype with him. 40 last year was a fluke. He had never even hit 30 before that. Injury prone, slow, lifeless. Him and Laine should be on the same team just to give the coach a nervous breakdown.

Bowser isn't worth 8M. He can't drive a line and needs help to create offense. He no longer has JT Miller to feed him pucks.
I agree with this. He's an elite complimentary player. Put him with a top notch playmaker/play driver, and he'll knock in 30 - 40 goals per year, as we've seen. But he doesn't generate a ton on his own, and that's fine. Goal scorers are important too, its the hardest thing in hockey to develop the skill to do. But when a sniper like Boeser doesn't have the right guys around him to utilize him properly, his output suffers. Is that worth 8M? I don't know, maybe it is in the right scenario, but for Vancouver right now, I don't know if 8M per year would end up being worth it, unless they find a legitimate top 6 C to replace what they lost with Miller's departure, or if Petterson finds his game once again, he likely wouldn't be worth half of his salary.

He knows the Canucks are cooked.

He's gonna have 7 bedrooms instead of 9 in the summer home what a shame 😭

It’s kind of wild they declined that deal considering he was almost a cal dump they paid to get rid of just a couple of years ago.

He’s injury prone, inconsistent and one dimensional. He should have taken that deal IMO.

With the announced increased in the cap, I don't think that there is much risk for Boeser. Someone else will overpay for too much term.
As long as someone else overpays I don't care.

I just don't want the canucks doing that deal, they should have traded him for that Canes first rounder that was floated around.

I'm thinking he just wants out . Take what he gets on the open market where he wants to be . If it's for a bit less to say Minnesota i'm sure he is fine with that .

Boeser is a great individual and good complimentary player, the issue is he can’t drive any kind of play. Good offensive instincts, above average defence. Ultimately needs someone else to make things happen though.

I think he’s a super talented player and I would take him on my team any time. That being said turning down that deal is nuts.

I think Brock will do fine. As others have said he's a high-end complementary player, he can't drive a line but he can put up big goal totals with the right center, and is also a good defensive player & sneaky good playmaker.

I think the Canucks 8Mx5 offer was fair, and now given he was under-preforming.. more than fair. Still hoping he can play his was into irreplaceable status like he felt last season, but its a real stretch given the Canucks need to get faster.

No matter how it ends I have to give him a ton of credit... In Vancouver the fanbase/media talks about whether players want to play in a Canadian market with the pressure we have here - and many players dont - but Brock has embraced it from day 1 & wants to stay even now.

He's as high character a person as there is in the league, you can't find a better person than Brock Boeser. I will always cheer for him no matter what happens.

Absurd. Boeser is a good defensive player, heavily committed 200ft game (despite his speed limitations), works hard in the dirty areas, and has proven himself capable of scoring when things get difficult in the playoffs.

Laine is more talented but hasn't proven himself to be as dedicated to those areas as Brock has. Give Boeser some credit, his success hasn't come easily unlike it seems with Laine.

Boeser's camp apparently rejected a 8mil x 5 yrs offer from the Canucks.

Now he has 0 goals in his last 12 games while the Canucks are fighting for their playoff lives.

3 pts in 12 games.

Allvin almost too candidly announced at the post trade deadline presser that the league doesnt think very highly of Brock for a number of reasons and were only willing to offer a 2nd round pick for him at the TDL.

Friedman confirmed that a 2nd round pick was the best offer from anyone due to the following reasons:

1. concern about the blood clot he previously had
2. concern that Boeser was just riding on JT Millers coat tails. (Boeser play since Miller left kinda proves that as well)
3. concern about Boeser's foot speed.

If you remember a year ago, Allvin gave permission for Brock and his agent to look for a trade. Nothing materialized.

Now Brock is playing without a contract next year. He will be playing the rest of the season and possibly playoffs without guaranteed contract moving forward.

Very risky for someone that has dealt with blood clot and other major injuries.

Quite the gamble rejecting 40+ million. Hopefully not another case of John Klingberg.
All that and the team offered him 8m/yr and somehow acting like he’s also overrated? lol.

Allvin couldn’t get what he wanted so his next step was to throw daggers at his value at the deadline and at the agent to play games to sign for less or a number they’re ok with.

Also lol at the 12 game bs. Pettersson had like 4 goals in 3 months or 31 games.

I could see Carolina, Boston or Los Angeles having interest or even Chicago to add more talent around Bedard.
Chicago would be a good spot for him actually, so he can be the support player Bedard needs to really take a step forward. As long as he isn't too concerned with the playoffs for the next 2-3 years. Chicago is a number of pieces away from being a playoff team again.

Absolutely.

If this happened a year ago, then it's a different story. He scored 40 goals and had 70 points. With the cap rising, he could've cashed in big time and make someone look stupid like Jeff Skinner.

But right now, like Friedman mentioned, no one is blinded by that and can see the concerns.

Reality is Boeser has not hit 60 points more than once in his 8 year career. Some of it was due to missed games, but you can't even fault injuries 3 out of his last 4 seasons counting this one.

He's just not that good. Non-playoff teams might overlook the lack of foot speed if they're in desperate need of scoring, but then you look at the numbers and outside of last year nothing screams pay this man the big bucks.

Don't get me wrong, someone is going to pay him. But I'd be shocked if it's more than 8 million (or 8 million with more term). Boeser isn't the type of guy who is going to have multiple teams going after him aggressively. He's more like the "well we gotta do something" option.
