Maybe Marner wants to leave. Imagine he signed his big raise extension this year? He would be getting it even more from everybody. I forgot he rejected a contract.

Would not be the first time Tre lets 1+ guys leave for nothing.

As I said elsewhere, keep Marner + JT and trade Matthews - Toronto will get a ton in return.

I wonder what they would really get? You would be trading him at his lowest value

- Injury Prone
- Cannot perform big in playoffs
- Right now, highest salary

The only way a team takes that is if it is a team like Utah or some other team who wants to try to market a big name player in the US

Ducks and Kings have a ton of $$ to spend I believe

This is what Matthews is:

Outstanding player in the RS, one of the best all-time. If you need to get into the playoffs, having Matthews exponentially boosts your chances of making it.

But, once you’re in the playoffs, his AAV would be better if it was around 7-8 mil, rather than 13 mil…

Seems lots of Leafs fans and Matthews lovers seem to struggle with the concept that a player can be great in the RS but crap in the POs.

Trade him for Kaprizov. I'm pretty sure Kirill doesn't care about any pressure, and Minnesota needs that big 1C. Maybe get Rossi somehow too to help Kaprizov. Maybe Marner will look better with Kaprizov than Matthews.

At least Matthews has 10pts in 11gms. Duchene hasn't scored a goal yet in 12gms and has only 5pts after scoring 82 in the regular season. Nobody cares, though, because the Stars are doing fine without him.
