it's like if McDavid only put up a point per game in the Playoffs for example, sure that would be fine for most players but context is a thing that exists and it would represent a major dropoff for McDavid compared to the regular season

He’s not even a PPG scorer in the playoffs and scores at a 33 goal pace during them. He’s improved a lot in other areas but he’s a ghost when it matters.

I’ll give him a break on his down season because he battled through some injuries I guess but he’s consistently a non factor in the playoffs. It looks even worse now that Marner, Nylander, Tavares and even Max Pacioretty of all people have all stepped up and performed.

I honestly believe that the Toronto media pumps up their star players, yes. It's why fans get sick of them and enjoy watching them lose.

The numbers say Leafs are in the 2nd round and LA got bounced by EDM once again. Should give Matthews the opportunity to play against Skinner/Pickard for a round. Kempe literally got carved up on the ice, was on for way more goals against than for (basically outscored 2-1 if you remove the PP), but yeah, he definitely has had the better playoff

While the goals arent going in for Matthews, hes still producing and out playing his opponents 5 on 5 by a wide margin. Enjoy losing to Edmonton again next year.

But you know what, ive said the core 4 are shit going back as far as the Columbus series if not even earlier. And yet all anyone would say is how great they are and that i wasnt a real fan because i didnt constanrly glaze them like everyone else. He is essentially a Kopitar-Ovechkin hybrid and would be regarded as such if on any other team in the league.

How many generational goal scorers have ever been nominated for the Selke or considered one of the best defensive players in the game?

I think people who are criticizing him these playoffs really haven’t been paying attention to how effective his minutes are shutting down opposing teams top players.

With that said, he might be the most anti-clutch player of all time. Can’t even score empty net goals to put the games away late.

Matthews is far from overrated. In-fact, I believe a lot of people undervalue his defensive work, which is a huge part of what makes him great.

In-regards to his scoring, this has to be a bait post. The man has a Calder, a Hart, and 3....3! Maurice Trophies since 2016.

I don't watch many Leafs games but in these playoff I have watched them all and have been extremely impressed with AM's 200' game.
