The answer for me is definitely not.
I just cant enjoy hockey from any viewpoint other than on the side and i have to be somewhat elevated.
I was at game 3 of 92 Stanley Cup at Chicago Stadium and got to sit three rows behind the goal
The best thing really was just taking in the whole experience not my view of the game
Sat in the corner at another game about ten rows up and didn't enjoy that much either

I would take almost any seat available at the ACC 20 years ago. Today going to the Scotbiabank is not worth it. I got temporarily relocated but used to have company tickets and honestly ended up giving more than half away cause the atmosphere on non rivalry games was on par to the Waterloo library

Edited. I should have said 20 years lol. Almost forgot what year it was. 2009 was definitely not a high point for Toronto

Depends on the game

If it's a playoff game any seat in the arena is better. There is nothing you can do to replicate that kind of atmosphere

A snoozer during game like 53 of the season? Now watching on TV is a lot more appealing unless the seats are particularly nice

One of the more bizarre threads I’ve seen lately. I’m curious how many live games you’ve watched.

Watching games from behind one of the nets in the top bowl is one of my favorite tbh. Especially when I’m behind my team’s goalie twice.

Watching the play develop, being able to look at what you want to see (not what the camera wants to show you), being part of the crowd, watching warmups, hearing the sounds of the game without annoying commentary…

My opinion is the opposite of yours I guess. Almost ANY seat in the arena is better than watching on TV.

Being at the game is a lot better for seeing plays develop and to see the structure of the game.

So many times when I'm watching on TV, it's just boom, someone is on a breakaway. When you are at a live game you can see that play coming.

For sure.

I would add a less dramatic but just as important thing to watch which is much easier in person, is line changes.

Drives me crazy that TV broadcasts don't emphasize that hockey is a game of shifts, and while not the same as at-bats in a baseball game, there are 75 or so various match-ups every game.

Even when lines are matched pretty closely there is still the element of good shift or bad shift. Good shift or bad shift. Good shift or bas shift...........who's up next for us and who are they going to send out?

Just a lot of work to properly track on TV.

"Better" is a relative term of course. I hate wasting time, so for me it is better to be able to turn the game on when it starts and turn it off when it ends, instead of driving to the game, standing in lines for various things, and then driving home. Also, I just hate crowds generally. So for me, TV is better.

Others enjoy the experience and the crowds and certainly you do get to see more live than on TV. You also get to avoid the 3 or 4 idiots blathering during intermission as well as all the crappy commercials. Many like that it gets them out of the house.

Is the difference worth the ticket prices? Everybody will answer that one differently, and obviously many people do believe that as they are indeed buying the tickets.

Viva la difference!

I suppose once you factor in ticket prices, rides, dinner and a few $26 beers it can seem that way, but it's a whole other experience seeing a game live compared to watching one on TV. Every fan should go at least once.

Center or center adjacent (within the blue lines), near the top of the lower bowl for me.

When I was younger, live games were fun. As I've aged, the prices, the traffic, the fat guy with the mustard smell, the schlepps in the too small jerseys screaming, spilling beer and making me get up and down from my seat 2 dozen times isn't as appealing as on demand, flipping through commercials and intermissions, the comfort of my living room and a season ticket for every home and road game for 12-15 bucks a month or whatever the hell I pay for ESPN+

I think every seat offers a different perspective.

I saw Bedard score and unreal goal earlier this year by sitting in the lower bowl by the boards in the corner. It really makes you appreciate the speed and skill of the game.

Sitting up high and watching plays develop as they happen is also very cool.

Also the ability to focus your attention to what interests you rather than being at the mercy of the TV broadcast is fun as well.

Ducks
Well considering I live in Atlantic Canada and am a Ducks fan I’m pretty pumped to see them in Montreal next Monday. Saw Anaheim play once live 18 years ago in Anaheim. When you live out outside of any pro market I guess it’s more the novelty.

Center-ish ice in the 200 level is my favorite but really any seat is great. If you’ve ever sat up real close to the glass you know that sometimes your view is obstructed which does suck but it gets paid back in full when the speed and talent of the game is happening in front of you.

Seeing a game live is much, much better than on tv. You get a real understanding of what’s going on and can see the intricacies of player’s decision making processes in a way you can’t at home.

Hopefully when in a couple decades I can retire, afford season tickets, and go to every Hawks game for years on end. Live hockey is the best.

I co-sign all of this.

A high seat behind the net is a great way to see the geometry and structure of the game.

You don’t get a good idea of how much the players spit on their bench when watching on tv

Seriously though, upper bowl dead center is the best
