Introduce Yourself

  • If you are having issues logging in, we have found opening the log in page in a new tab/window rather than using the pop out should resolve these issues. We are working to get this resolved and thank you for patience.
  • Due to the increased volume of league transactions, the Trade Rumors and Free Agent Talk section is temporarily restricted to where threads may only be started by moderators and sponsors. We anticipate that this restriction will be lifted some time after the first round of the draft.

What brought you to HF: When your team is selling Hall of Famers for peanuts and tanking you must look to the future... Thought I think I was on here a little before that, there aren't really any other fan dens with similar knowledge.
Why you're a Blues fan: My Dad was a big sports fan growing up so only natural for it to rub off (he's from Chicago but grew up a White Sox fan so not all bad... xD). Hockey just resonated with me in the early '90s so it wasn't hard to love the Blues of that era. I loved Mario Lemieux and Pavel Bure. One of the first Blues games I went to was completing the sweep of the Hawks in '93 when Belfour broke his stick at the old Arena. Remember fans bringing brooms, some fights in the stands, and the crowd chanting "Belfour" like a hymn.
Favorite player on the team: Thomas
Favorite player around the league: Kucherov? Kopitar?
Games you like: Path of Exile, Stellaris
Music you like: GUNSHIP, Kamelot, Celldweller, Glitch Mob, Chemical Brothers, rock and metal and stuff
Movies you like: The Fifth Element, Blade Runner
TV shows you like: Legend of the Galactic Heroes, The Expanse, Ghost in the Shell
Favorite food: Pasta, Brad Marchand's tears
Hockey jerseys owned: Mario Lemiuex, Pavol Demitra, Petr Cajanek
Anything else:
GUNSHIP... very nice.

GUNSHIP... very nice.
Unicorn is probably my favorite album of the past decade or more. Makes me wish they had Dave Lombardo on Dark All Day too since I think that drumming really perfectly completes the sound on their more rock styled tracks.

I listen to all their stuff on Spotify endlessly. Lots of Retrowave and Outrun music.

I listened to some Celldweller today and liked it. Like a lot! He's a very good songwriter. He's good at putting together nice melodies with harsh rhythms.

I'm not into video games at all, but I have a friend who is and Celldweller is 100% perfect for video game background music.

Yeah, I mean I put Celldweller on my list too so listening to Scandroid too is natural, though I know a lot of hipster outrun fans consider him a bit of a... colonizer. Carpenter Brut and the Midnight also stand out some to me, as well as some others, but I really think GUNSHIP is just on another level from anything else genre adjacent that I've heard. If you have any particular recommendations I'd love to hear them.

Klayton (Celldweller, Scandroid, Circle of Dust... and others xd) is just such a talented musician and producer. As a drummer I feel like he's one of the guys who was best able to combine electronic music with actual drumming, which is a big plus for me. He's also really great at producing clear sounds with distortion that really give great texture to his soundscapes. I think some of his more recent releases may be a little less interesting, but he has a huge variety of stuff in many genres so there's a lot to listen to.

If you like some of the "video gamey" aspects to some of his stuff you might also like Blue Stahli, who is one of Klayton's friends and started out on his independent label. I think Blue Stahli actually had a recent resurgence due to some stuff trakcs he made for the Cyberpunk 2077 soundtrack.

He's an exceptional multi-instrumentalist. He knows how to put together a great song.

Yeah Klayton has been around quite awhile now in a variety of styles. Good stuff.

I agree with you about GUNSHIP, they are the kings of the genre. Other than living through Retrowave when it wasn't actually retro my first introduction to it was a cover of the Kavinsky song Nightcall by London Grammar. Yeah, odd way to be introduced to it, I know, right?

So I highly recommend Kavinsky obviously. I like Power Glove a lot too and Carpenter Brut as you mentioned. Also, if you haven't done so already check out the movie Drive and the Drive soundtrack. But I think you have a much greater knowledge of the scene than I do.

What brought you to HF: Better, less chaotic discussion of Blues hockey than Reddit, where I used to post way more often. This forum actually knows the game and league.
Why you're a Blues fan: Born into it, baybee.
Favorite player on the team: Broberg. Glad he's sticking around. Thomas is a close second.
Favorite player around the league: I guess I'd have to say Broberg, but I can't help but be in awe watching Quinn Hughes play. Named one of my dogs after him. Of course, now we play him 5 times a year and I'm sure he'll eat our lunch.
Games you like: I'm a JRPG nerd. Honestly don't like that much anime, but am constantly in the middle of an EPIC JRPG, usually played on a retro handheld I customized and loaded up with ROMS. Probably my biggest hobby these days.
Music you like: Rock and Metal. Concerts are my hall pass from the wife, so I'm out going to bucket list shows when I can make it. I'm snobby though...I know the kind of music I listen to front and back. I'll just name a few: Older stuff...Allman Bros, XTC, the Kinks, Rush...80's college rock like The Smiths and Husker Du...90's alternative is my greatest love, Pumpkins, Pearl Jam and Soundgarden...also love a ton of proggier, more obscure stuff, like King's X, Haken, Thank you Scientist, Big Wreck...it goes on and on and on.
Movies you like: I teach a film class. Either dumbass comedies or film as art. franchise slop begone (unless it's the first Jurassic Park)
TV shows you like: I can pretty much quote seasons 2-13 of The Simpsons and 2-9 of Seinfeld verbatim. I avoid prestige drama because it always, always lets me down somehow.
Favorite food: Get those Spicy Glazed wings from Schnucks, get the little bucket and play meat Tetris so you walk out of there with 4 lbs of those wings for $14. There you go.
Hockey jerseys owned: I have every style of Blues Jersey they ever wore up until fanatics took over. Some of my favorites: A Gretzky home clown jersey; a team store 'new (so dark colors)' home clown jersey Parayko; a apron string home Tarasenko I've won for every game seven since I bought it but ONE (I'll give you 1.6 seconds to guess which one that was), a black Starter 'fashion jersey' I found at a Goodwill for $20 somehow and a KOHO Doug Weight road jersey that I inordinately love.
Anything else: Read for yourself and read to your kids. I teach English and I can tell if you don't.
