Mears is much better at 99% of calling the game than Rimer (no offense to him, as he’s part of CBJ lore). Unfortunately, the 1% is goal calls which is pretty important, particularly if it’s a late tying or winning goal. But Mears overall has a great call.
Perhaps they’re getting rid of that cannon jersey in exchange for the stadium series onesI'm also wondering if the 3rd jersey is about to be changed. it doesn't seem to have the stock or customization options available the other 2 do in the Blue Line website or on NHLShop.com. I was in Polaris today and noticed they barely had any 3rd jerseys on the rack.
Would be an upgrade for sure. I bet they'll make small tweaks however like making the numbers smaller and obviously getting rid of the stadium series markings. maybe some other minor details.Perhaps they’re getting rid of that cannon jersey in exchange for the stadium series ones
I enjoy the broadcast with Mears but if I miss a game and just watch the highlights it is cringeworthy. Goal calls are a thing that people in his craft work on for years so it's odd that this is the best he can do.
This. Far and away this. His calls are why I'm a hockey fan.Still think George Matthews was the best PBP announcer (on TV or radio) we’ve ever had from a combination of calling the game and goal excitement (although I think we’ve only had 5 total, so not like there are many to choose from).
depends but generally noDo you guys buy into the “you can’t change a winning lineup” mentality?
Depends on what you define as winning. For this season is winning just competing for the playoffs, was it getting into the playoffs or was it winning the cup?Do you guys buy into the “you can’t change a winning lineup” mentality?
I'm not so sure about Jackie Redmond being a "Jackets fan" but I'm definitely a Jackie Redmond fan.Jackets broadcasters are getting good traction with TNT/TBS. Shelley has a plum assignment between the benches teaming up with Forslund and Eddie O in the Avs/Stars series.
Steve Mears has assignments for the Edmonton series while the Hyphenator gets game -Leafs/Sens - along with Mears. (And worth mentioning Jackets fan Jackie Redmond has the third chair with Mears for two games).
I was more so asking just game to game. If you play the Devils and win 3-0, are you against changing the lineup? Does your logic change in a playoff series?Depends on what you define as winning. Ask anyone what te expectations were for this season and it was just surviving and hoping to be competitive. I think we exceeded that so I consider it a "win" this season but the standards get higher next year and I highly prefer they get even higher the following year.

I don't believe in it. You usually know why you won the game, which pairings and lines were working and which ones were not. And so many wins are on the backs of better shooting and goaltending too. Keep what works, you can change what doesn't work even after a win.
If you are playing the same team, probably not, if its a different team or series, maybe since what works for one may not work for another. There could be some considerations versus home and away however when it comes to line matchups.I was more so asking just game to game.
