Interesting Info: Part XXII (Jackets-related "tidbits" here)

I'm going to look at the last two games on the record, counting how many fights who won, accuracy of passes at speed. So I'll see what comes of that. 🤔

@CBJWerenski8 - I see you have relatives in Buffalo :D

The CBJ on their website would have that years media guide with all of the records for the team. I looked for it but couldn't find it this year. Does anyone know a site that has the guide?

25. Here’s my expansion prediction: the NHL adds two teams, but not at the same time. I’ve heard there’s real concern about dilution of talent with two teams at once. My guess is the first is Houston, with 2028-29 a desire, although that means everyone’s got to get going. Price: Approximately $2 billion.

Obviously too early to do a thread about expansion but something to keep in mind down the line

Any one in here read Doug Maclean's book "Draft Day"? It's pretty terrible but had some interesting tidbits.

- McConnell hired him as GM and then after asking who the team President would be McConnell said "you just do that too". Which is why most of the early hires were just personal friends of Maclean. He didn't know what he was doing.

- Says the Zherdev fiasco directly led to his decision to draft Brule instead of Kopitar, despite the team having Kopitar ahead on their draft board. Literally admits in the book to being anti Euro.

- Nationwide Insurance called him one day to let him know Zherdev's Arena district apartment was totally trashed and he had brought a 35 year old girlfriend home from Russia with him

- Apparently there was a Zherdev / Brendan Morrow 1 for 1 trade that just about went through but then Morrow signed an extension in Dallas.

- Makes absolutely no mention at any point in the book about Alexandre Picard.

Maclean was hired because he supposedly had written an entire manifesto on how to build a hockey team. He must have apparently forgotten to write a chapter about how to actually run it.

I find it odd about the Zherdev appartment. NW Realty might have owned the building but I would assume the property manager would have been the one who contacted him if f'ing shot up.

I can imagine there was some confusion about what exactly a "Slovene" is and what stereotypes we were supposed to apply to them.

When Dougie heard that they were Slavs who wore adidas track pants, all hope was lost. Some scout was heard running towards the draft room yelling "he's like a Swede!" but he did not arrive in time and we picked Brule.

I remember there was an old “behind the battle” type series of one offseason with him. And he refused to include Picard in a deal for Chris pronger.

Yeah but imagine how much Chris Pronger would have messed up our draft position. We would never have gone on to draft Ryan Murray.

It's on YouTube and is enough to make even the most desperately bitter CBJ fan thankful that at least Doug MacLean is not with the team anymore.

Or, I guess, nostalgic if you're a masochist.

Oh, Dougie……Even his “best moments” like signing Adam Foote are a disaster. And the true best moment during his ride - bringing in Hitchcock - came about against his wishes.
