What’s Filatov doing there lol
25. Here’s my expansion prediction: the NHL adds two teams, but not at the same time. I’ve heard there’s real concern about dilution of talent with two teams at once. My guess is the first is Houston, with 2028-29 a desire, although that means everyone’s got to get going. Price: Approximately $2 billion.
Obviously too early to do a thread about expansion but something to keep in mind down the line
Or Chicago 1st unprotectedSo probably not the right thread but still bent we went with Lindstrom in the ‘24 draft instead of Demidov.
Shooting videos about Russian NHLers along with former soccer star ArshavinWhat’s Filatov doing there lol
Maclean was hired because he supposedly had written an entire manifesto on how to build a hockey team. He must have apparently forgotten to write a chapter about how to actually run it.Any one in here read Doug Maclean's book "Draft Day"? It's pretty terrible but had some interesting tidbits.
- McConnell hired him as GM and then after asking who the team President would be McConnell said "you just do that too". Which is why most of the early hires were just personal friends of Maclean. He didn't know what he was doing.
- Says the Zherdev fiasco directly led to his decision to draft Brule instead of Kopitar, despite the team having Kopitar ahead on their draft board. Literally admits in the book to being anti Euro.
- Nationwide Insurance called him one day to let him know Zherdev's Arena district apartment was totally trashed and he had brought a 35 year old girlfriend home from Russia with him
- Apparently there was a Zherdev / Brendan Morrow 1 for 1 trade that just about went through but then Morrow signed an extension in Dallas.
- Makes absolutely no mention at any point in the book about Alexandre Picard.
I remember there was an old “behind the battle” type series of one offseason with him. And he refused to include Picard in a deal for Chris pronger.- Makes absolutely no mention at any point in the book about Alexandre Picard.

It's on YouTube and is enough to make even the most desperately bitter CBJ fan thankful that at least Doug MacLean is not with the team anymore.I remember there was an old “behind the battle” type series of one offseason with him. And he refused to include Picard in a deal for Chris pronger.

Or, I guess, nostalgic if you're a masochist.
Put the franchise behind the 8 ball from the very beginning and we're still feeling the effects of his reignOh, Dougie……Even his “best moments” like signing Adam Foote are a disaster. And the true best moment during his ride - bringing in Hitchcock - came about against his wishes.
