According to Dregger,

Lots of teams calling Vancouver about Soucy. He has trade protection and the feeling is, Carson would like to stay west or as close to BC as possible due to having a young family.

Dumolin got a 2nd and a prospect.

Would Soucy get more, especially because he is under-contract for another year with a solid 3.25 AAV.

Where does Soucy go and whats the return?

Is Vancouver giving up on this season?

They will be both sellers and buyers imo.

As for Soucy, he has bounced back big time since it was rumored he was on the block about a month ago.

However, Canucks acquired M.Pettersson and D-Petey ( Elias Pettersson) has emerged as a rookie and has snatched Soucy's spot from him. Left Side is jammed now.

Hughes
M.Pettersson
E.Pettersson
Soucy
Forbort

Hopefully Toronto is one is one of those teams because they do need to solidify the 2nd/borrom pair.

A Soucy, or Savard or Murphy would do that.

I think you are looking at Dumo/Lindgren range. A 2nd and a little cherry on top.

While the extra year is not expensive and *could* be good if he rebounds in another setting, I also think in some ways teams would prefer a rental "try before you buy" on these types of depth defenders. I liked Soucy in Seattle but what I've seen in Vancouver this year hasn't been all that great - so to take that extra year means you really think he needs a change of scenery more than anything.

The Oilers are in love with this guy for some reason, the team even had a jersey made up for him a couple trade deadlines ago. I can see them paying way more than they should for him.

Soucy's bounced back very well but the emergency of D Petey and how well Forbort has played has made him expendable

With this market, some doofus GM will pay a lot more for him than he's probably worth. Low cap hit and locked in for next year too. Also can play right side well but Tocchet uses that as a last resort because reasons.

Soucy imo is much much better than Dumo defensively. Dumo might provide more O tho.

Soucy is also only 30 yrs old and 3 yrs younger than Dumo

He was horrible to start the season, but was very very good as a shutdown Dman during last year's playoffs.

Soucy was tasked to shadow and matchup with Mcdavid. Even got under Mcdavid's skin lots. Was suspended for cross checking him in the face.

They dont have a 1st or 2nd this year. a 3rd might do it tho? who knows.

Otherwise it will have to be a high 2026 draft..

Their cupboard of prospects is not that enticing, plus they are a good team so that draft pick will be higher than most.

Id much rather trade Soucy to Calgary who has expressed interest as well apparently.

Dumoulin got a 2nd+, Soucy has term and is 3 years younger.

It's not always a matter of "that guy got this...thus this guy gets that..."

I'd be shocked if it were more than the Dumoulin package...I think term or not, age or not, that's kind of the ceiling on a good solid veteran depth defender at the deadline.

Frankly - I'm not sure how Vancouver turns down the Dumoulin package here, that's still great value.

Oilers should be inquiring but not sure Vancouver will trade to a conference rival. Soucy is exactly who the Oilers need, big dman with size who plays a heavy game.

A little while ago I said that it would take an overpayment, because his cap hit vs. value is not any concern. I said that if someone wanted to chuck a 2nd at us then go for it otherwise we would be better to keep him. If this is truly the market, I would be more than happy with a 2nd and a C+ prospect with some jazz. Even a 3rd and a top 7 in your pool type prospect honestly.
