Rempe was fine last night, his mere presence is a physical message, like a policeman walking the beat. He was also restrained and didnt commit any noteworthy offenses. Also, he was interfered with, grabbed from behind and shoved down, a clear penalty. But no penalty was called. They showed it on the jumbotron to make a point of it. He has a lot of potential and will grow into his role on the team. Shortly after the incident where he was grabbed and shoved down the Devils did receive a penalty though, which helped us and it may have been because the refs realized they should have called NJ on interfering with the Rempmeister. It was a fab all around effort last night. I had a couple Devils fans sitting next to us and it was interesting to see the deflation of their mood as it set in that the Rangers weren't going to be a pushover easy win to then we actually were maybe going to beat them. When the O.T. goal happened they were visibly upset, understandably. Nice guys though, I investigated the changes NJ made to go from bad last season to good this season and according to them its all because of their 2 new goalies. Interesting because I thought they had gotten new meaningfully studly defensemen as well but not so according to my neighbors.

Making the playoffs is not the same thing as being actual Cup contenders. I do agree this was a roster that should finish in a playoff spot when the season began...until they pouted their way into the cellar.

However, I never believed they were good enough to win it all at any point over the past 3.5 years even when they were racking up all those wins.

They are closer to being Cup contenders than any of the teams they are chasing for that last spot.

It's not likely that they'll win the Cup and, inherently, never will be but you gotta be in it to win it. We're in the window. They've signed win now extensions. If we're out of it at the deadline, sell. But I just dont believe we will be and never have.

I'll say this too but the last time the rangers went to the Cup Final, they werent considered a "Cup contender" at really any point that season.

I'm not saying it's a good idea. My idea is to trade kreider lindgren smith vesey brodz quick borgen ruhwedel and rempe, and attempt to trade panarin, and get a 1LD and a pick to draft a high end center. Id probably trade Chytil too. then can lavi and housley and let peca run the how, muse X's and o's, and get a defensive guy in here to figure this shit out.

but i know that's not what's gonna happen. This team will go on a run, igor gets hot, bread and fox get hot, and we'll trade a 1st for a grit 3C. Bjugstad always lurks. we are trying to win this year - i laid it all out two days ago.

is it crazy? yes. is it inadvisable? absolutely? but this is NYR we don't do things right here. there's no quit
Your come to the conclusion that Drury will trade 1st is what I was referring to and give you a reference for why he wouldn't do it from as recent as last year situation. He's not dismantling the whole team as you're suggesting but I doubt he'd be trading 1st either.

I think that first is on the table for something that helps us beyond this season. The team is going to do everything possible for that pick to not be in the lottery; so people rooting for losses to get better lottery odds is just mind numbing to see imo

last year was the exception - they traded at least one 1st in the two previous years - and they traded a 2nd 3rd and 4th for roslovic and wennberg...

you think he is wary of trading draft capital? we hardly have any f***ing picks left lmao

Sure didn't buff it for the first 35.
Considering our past standards, it did

Our 4th line lacks an energy player. Rempe fills that role. Doesn’t mean he’s a good hockey player but he’s effective in his role.

Go get Olivier as that guy if you want a better player. This team needs a mascot. Someone to get them engaged.

Once PP1 got used to the new positioning & having Laf on the wall instead of Kreider at netfront, they've looked way more dangerous. Old PP1 had gotten extremely predictable always relying on a few set plays. Zibanejad is far more dangerous moving around and getting his wrist shot off in the middle than he is hanging out at the circle doing f***all.

That’s the only realistic move for this team. Energy bottom 6 player and if Drury has the balls, trading and upgrading Lindgren.

Mika in the Middle! (someone photoshop it)

He’s so much more effective with his wrist shot in the middle/high slot.

It’s been obvious for years

He absolutely did and this was a very common theme in the game of hockey until we went overboard for the analytics stuff in the last 10 years.. I didnt see Meier crosschecking all our start players this time around. It wasnt a coincidence. Not to mention the tangible effect of MacDermid taking an O-zone penalty we scored on. He didnt play in the other 2 games and the Devils chose to make their team worse because of Rempe.

Analytics measures what helps you win hockey games. Going overboard in analytics is like saying you went overboard trying to win.

I hate to be that guy but winning a 3 point game against a divisional rival was the last thing this organization needed.

Even when we should be losing we somehow botch that, too.

You already know Drury is salivating at the chance to acquire every 33 year old player at the deadline when we are clear sellers.

Even if you're rooting for the Rangers tanking, the team is still going to win some games. Might as well play spoiler against the Devils.
