Whatever the timeline is for Nurse I hope he doesn't rush back. Potential brain injuries need to be taken seriously. We all trash Nurse and his contract but now we might actually see his real value to the team with him potentially out.
He was actually playing well too which really sucks because this will likely sidetrack his positive play and momentum.

Reaves gets 5 but watching the replay in the suspension video... he clearly targeted the head... no mis-timing when he had plenty of time in his long skate up to Nurse... and Nurse was skating pretty slowly as well with the puck... easy enough to target the body there but Reaves chose the head shot instead.

Should have been a much longer suspension if the league actually wants that stuff out of the game.

Even Reaves demeaner after the hit was telling... he couldn't give give 2 shits about the fact he head-shotted Nurse and bloodied him... you could see he thought it was nothing by his reaction and the way he skated off... if it was actually an accident and he intended to hit the shoulder/body instead... you'd expect a tiny bit of concern at least.

It was an intentional goon hit to the head and with zero give a shit that it left the player injured and likely concussed.

Goon actions deserved a much stiffer suspension but "mis-timing" was the comment in the suspension video which says it all... NHL isn't actually serious about getting that type of hit out of the game.

Yup, when it comes time to pay lipservice to wanting to combat CTE, they're "game", but it's all talk. Their reaction to this predatory hit is proof. Goon should be out of the league. Not like he can play legitimate hockey anymore, anyhow.

These grade A idiots are talking the reaves hit down. How nurse kind of humbles it. He never looks down. Spec and karius. Even bad ice and it was close to a good hit. 5 games is fine

These guys get paid to talk about hockey? I had to turn that trash off.

The DoPS isn’t there to protect the players.

It’s to protect the owners from lawsuits

Any word on the extent of Nurse's injury. I really hope he milked it to get that oversized goon suspended for as long as possible and he's completely fine. What Drai should have done with the petro axe. Realistically that did not look good at all.

The league suspensions should be changed. The given suspension should be a minimum. So 5 games minimum but he doesn't get to return until Nurse does. The trade off isn't the same.

I've said it many times. This league does way more wrong than they do right. If they had any competition whatsoever, they would have been put out of business a long time ago.

For concussions he would have gone to do a SCAT test and Impact test which would help determine cognitively if he had a concussion. His RTP (return to play) would begin when symptoms are lessened and would include typically a 15 minute bike ride on day 1. Then if he has no symptoms in 24 hours he moves to stage 2 of RTP and would do a higher intensity workout. If no symptoms then he moves onto the next stage until cleared for non-contact activities and then contact.

Well, if you call falling down unconscious and getting your head slammed again by hitting the ice directly, then yah, I'd say he "milked it" pretty damned good.;):D

As for Reaves, the larger question is, what is a 37 year old goon (who brings absolutely zilch to the game other than doing shit like this from his 2 minutes of total ice time every 7 games), still doing gaining regular employment in this league?
