They are losses.

OTL = shootout and overtime losses

Points are rewarded because the NHL never really got rid of the tie point.

It will be a disgrace if the NHL ever makes shootout losses cost zero points. The shootout has nothing to do with the game. The fact that you get points for shootout wins is bad enough. They are ties in my book. It was a tie when the real game was played.

I envy your ability to make your own rules, but thats just not how it works.

Overtime losses still result in gaining a point. That is why it is not considered a loss.

We are 8-8-2.

End of the story.

Having a different point of view isn't making your own rules. The first thing looked at when trying to make the playoffs is the teams point total. If you went to OT in every game you'd get 82 pts out of a potential 164 even if you lost them all. That's half of 164 or, funnily enough, .500. Just change what column you pay attention too...

I think they need to go to a 3 point regulation win already.

With Callahan going, Hagelin going, and Stepan not looking completely useless, I think we will be OK once these guys get back. We were starting to look OK before they went down. I think it's no coincidence we look bad now.

Our team has been blessed for the most part injury wise since the lockout.

Agreed. If they aren't going to bring back ties, which would be my preference (and they aren't), the 3 point regulation win is the only reasonable option.

I think the league prefers overtime games though... more broadcasting time, more prolonged viewers and therefore higher TV ratings... You're essentially telling teams that "If you want the max amount of points, don't go to OT", when in reality we know the league sees this as a money grab, and free exposure... why would they essentially start telling teams to avoid overtime to get more points?

Just food for thought

Absolutely this. With Nash playing we win at least one of the games we lost while he was out, and McD is always a blessing. With the depth going now it's only a matter of time before Gabby gets going again. Losing Nash when we did was probably the worst possible timing, because the team couldve really started to click and gain confidence. Here's hoping bringing back two of our best players does what it should do- make us a better team.

I had NHL radio on in my truck before and Glenn Healy "implied" that Nashs injury occurred from an elbow to the head from Milan Lucic.

I did not hear of this specific inference that this was the reason for Rick being out till today.

Hope they all are ready to go, certainly need them.

No more Gilroy-Bickel please. Better to role with two four defensemen, juniorhockeystyle!

Think about this next time the Rangers go down and block a shot... :amazed:

What the hell is going on with that knee? I've played hockey pretty much my whole life and I've never seen anything like that before, haha.

Agree.

I've played hockey my whole life too, but... I'd probably cry blocking an NHL Shot.

i stared at that picture for at least 5 minutes str8 earlier trying to figure out what the **** i was looking at and i can't help looking at it over and over again now 2 hours later

Mcdonagh said hes healthy and ready to go and Nash also said he should be ready but will test later on today to make sure.. now lets freaking go

Yup, 3 points for regulation win, 2 for OT or SO win, 1 for OT or SO loss and 0 for regulation loss.

I'd rather deter teams from playing for the shootout and considering ROW is a playoff tiebreaker have ROW 3 pts, SO win 2 pts, OTL or SO Loss 1 pt, Reg Loss 0 pts.
