I would like to apologize for my comments on the main board. This was not a strong hockey play. It was not a clean hit and I'm surprised that Pacioretty did not get suspended.

I hope McDo will be alright and I wish Girardi a quick recovery. Gallagher had a concussion (could not remember his name, the city he was in and that he scored in the game) after being boarded by Luke Schenn but he only missed 1 game. I hope McDo has the same fast recovery.

You guys are good, classy fans (unlike Bruins and Leafs fans) and you have every right to be mad at the hit. I would be mad too if it was Subban who got hit and injured like this.

Your apology is accepted and your post is appreciated.
Glad there are Habs fans who agree this was not a clean hit.

Thanks for this. There's so much stupidity on the mainboard that it can get frustrating (from TOR/MTL/NYR fans in particular), posts like these are refreshing.

This image has probably been posted already but look at all the white space in between the yellow dasher board and his feet and how his knees are bent....

Yeah, he didn't jump my a**. You dont go flying that high in the air just from hitting someone no matter how hard it is. The exact definition of leaving your feet. What an embarrassment.

If this is how the league continues to treat the rangers like they dont matter then i hope they have a neverending lockout

I told myself that in the aftermath of last night's game, I was going to avoid this place for a few days because there would be idiotic statements galore.

Looks like I should've stuck to my plan.

Carl Hagelin: High elbow on Alfredsson against the boards, accidental, 3 games.

Matt Carkner: Jumps and starts punching Boyle intentionally, 1 game.

It's called Newton's Third Law.

Try watching a video instead of posting a still image.

I hope you know that it's possible to make a hit without leaving your feet too...

Of course it is, but that doesn't mean it's always controllable. If the leaving of the feet does happen and it occurs as part of the contact, then it is not a dirty play... it's just a function of physics.

What is controllable though is slowing down so that you're not flying into another player with enough force to cause you to jump.

Which is why it was a boarding penalty, not a malicious charge and hit to the head.

He didn't hit him that hard. It's more often the angle of the hit that causes the skates to come up.

You mean Paccioretty positioning himself so that he can hit him with the side of his body/elbow? He didn't have to skate into him at that angle. There is an argument to both sides. At that body positioning it is unavoidable that he'd have to leave his skates. He could have stayed at his natural body position too and not had to leave his skates at all either. He could have stick checked him with the knowledge that many players get boarded and seriously hurt. There is no reason that a player going into the boards should result in blood, ever. I'm all for physical play, and a good hit to me is when you go up against someone who is aware and its whoever gets the better of the other person. But hitting someone who is in an awkward position, or defenseless, or unaware is not the definition of a clean hit.

Don't get me wrong, i'm not one to defame other teams and excuse when we do something stupid, but that hit was dirty.

But... as previously said on this thread, the only thing sadder than the lack of disciplining for this is the lack of response by any of the Rangers.

It only resulted in blood because of McDonagh's visor. I'm honestly more surprised we don't see that happen more often.

And no, I don't mean how Pacioretty hit him. I meant the angle at which he came from. It happens. It really wasn't a dirty hit. Not for nothing, but McDonagh moves into the hit too. The angle Pacioretty lined up wasn't the angle he ended up getting the McDonagh at.

As for the team's response? Those comments are exactly as ridiculous as the comments about Girardi were two seasons ago.

Agree to disagree. You have your opinion, I have mine. Most people tend to get into arguments with one another because they try to convince the other person they are wrong. You saw the play one way and I saw it another way.

On principle, to avoid head injuries, taking runs at players could be prevented or at least discouraged by suspensions on even marginal hits on the board. In my opinion, given this players reputation and also his clear intent to get a "payback" hit on a particular player warrants a suspension alone.

As for the retaliation, thats a part of any team dynamic. It shows team unity and also shows that you will not be bullied. Gaborik and Richards get absolutely bullied and no one does anything about it and its sad that players that should warrant a lot of respect in the league are allowed to get bullied and potentially injured do to a team's lack of solidarity.

And as exactly ridiculous as your comment is now.

Let's go around for another 360 degrees. That's a whole lot of analysis on what is just a basic, dirty boarding.

So right about the bolded part! We currently don't have the team make up to not allow this, and/or maybe Torts doesn't allow it.

Right on, kenjets36, about no one sticking up for Richards and Gaborik. Remember when Gabby got boarded by Grossmann, and then was held along the benches for a good 10 seconds after? Not saying we should start a line brawl, but a little extra after the next whistle would be nice.

And that's exactly the problem here. There was nothing basic about that hit. It was an example of Murphy's "Law". Nothing more.

I find it funny people said we dont need Rupp and Asham and Bickel in the lineup and now we are saying we want guys that will stick up for teammates...............first off Powe is waaay better for this team than Rupp, they actually have a 4th line when healthy...............Asham would of killed a Hab but he was hurt,,,,,,,,not sure why Bickel didnt do something , why is he playing then?

To make the other teams feel good about not having a player worse than him?

Yeah...not sure what his role is. He doesn't do anything even adequately.

We have a different view, Tawnos. I have watched it a few times. I'm not getting all crazy about it (don't believe that Pac jumped into the hit) but Pac drove his head into the glass. I saw intent to injure.

The justice from the NHL has been like a patchwork quilt. They cannot even get it the easy stuff correct on the ice, when it happens. There was a head injury to McDonagh; he was bleeding.

He was cut by his visor...
