With all the controversy surrounding this 2007 draft, it becomes clear that it takes at least two to three years to judge the choice of most picks. So how would you judge the 2003, 2004 or 2005 first round picks of your team?
Are they ready for the NHL? Will they be forever AHL level players?
As of my team, the Habs here are the results:
2003
Andrei Kostitsyn, 1rst round, 10th overall
Still an AHL player. Did not prove yet that he can play regularly with the Habs. Still a prospect four years after being picked.
2004
Kyle Chipchura, 1rst round, 18th overall
Still plays in the AHL, just won the Calder Cup, said to have the potential to play Center on our third line. For now still a prospect.
2005
Carey Price, 1rst round, 5th overall
Moved with our AHL club at the end of the season and was a good reason that Hamilton won the Calder Cup. Might or might play with the Habs next season. My best guess: he will join the club this year.
So as you can see none of our first picks from 2003-2005 are playing with the Habs at the moment.
How about your past 1rst round picks?
