In case anyone still thinks McDavid isn’t a great playoff performer, know this.

You act like this is 2012 talking about rookie Jagr winning the Cup with the Pens in 1990. It was 2022 and MacKinnon was monstrous in that run and clinching game. And this year specifically, MacKinnon was great. Everyone else sucked.

Also talk shit about MacKinnon when you have a pic of McDavid like this.

we can talk however we want, so can you, but you didn't win a cup, the avalanche winning the cup in 2022 doesn't make you a better fan than other fan bases. Its not your accomplishment. I mean Oilers have 5 stanley cups in their history, and it doens't mean anything or make any arguments stronger, in fact calling out "nanaana my team won a cup" makes you look like a child and gives off " my dad can beat up your dad" energy.

I think the general view is McDavid is a great playoff performer on a team that he and Draisaitl have had to carry on their backs.

He might be getting more support in recent years but pretty sure the Oilers as a team were seen as a flop in the playoffs, not McDavid.

McDavid is already one of the best playoff performers ever.

Leading the playoffs in scoring without playing the final round is nuts. Most assists ever in a playoff season is nuts. Beating any Gretzky record in the playoffs is nuts. Winning Conn Smythe on the losing team is nuts. 130 point pace during the playoffs is nuts.

In the 4 rounds, 4 of 7 era, only Forsberg and McDavid have done it.

In other sports, I remember MJ doing it two years in a row, in 1989 and 1990, by 200+ and 100+ points over 2nd place which is just nuts when you consider the MVPs usually score 600 to 700 in an entire run. Only other player to accomplish it was Durant in 2014, but only by a few points over Lebron. That meant MJ lead the playoffs in points and ppg for 8 of 10 consecutive years. Just bonkers. And some still think Lebron is the GOAT

He's pacing almost 150 in the last 4 playoffs.

I don’t think people realize how nuts it really is, this stuff you listed doesn’t even do it justice.

There’s a legit argument that McDavid is the best player ever in the playoffs.

Connor McDavid 2.15
Leon Draisaitl 2
Wayne Gretzky 1.97
Mario Lemieux 1.91
Bobby Orr 1.79
Nathan MacKinnon 1.77
Peter Forsberg 1.67
Mikko Rantanen 1.67
Nikita Kucherov 1.61
Joe Sakic 1.6
Sidney Crosby 1.58
Gordie Howe 1.57
Jean Beliveau 1.54
Bobby Hull 1.5
Cale Makar 1.48
Phil Esposito 1.47
Evgeni Malkin 1.46
Ryan Getzlaf 1.42
Patrick Kane 1.41
Gilbert Perreault 1.41
Brayden Point 1.4
Mark Messier 1.35
Jake Guentzel 1.35
Alex Delvecchio 1.34
Mats Sundin 1.34

That’s adjusted career points per game, among players in the top 250 in actual playoff points.

Gretzky 158.3
McDavid 156.6
Lemieux 151
Draisaitl 148.7
Howe 147.5
Esposito 145.8
Forsberg 134.6
Jagr 134.1
Kucherov 132
Crosby 131.9

That’s adjusted points to the 1984 level of defense Gretzky faced in the playoffs, best consecutive 70 games in the playoffs. Of course McDavid has only played 74 playoff games total so it’s insane he ranks that high.!! 😮

This is not including these playoffs where he looks to be continuing his all-time dominance, cementing himself on an offensive level only rivaled by Gretzky and Lemieux.

Forsberg actually did it twice as well, 1999 and 2002.

outside of 2022 (which was definitely an all time great performance with the best of them) I feel everytime I watch it's mostly empty calorie points in an era where the playoff games are less physical than preseason games in the past
Agreed, but there still points nonetheless

McDavid has a very great chance of eclipsing past 230+ playoff points if health is on his side by the time it's all said and done IMO.
