No, the report said that he requested a trade at the end of last season, "Ilya Mikheyev asked for a trade following the 2020-21 season" and was told that he is epected to play an important role. "the organization told Mikheyev it considers him a key part of their team and are counting on him to have a big year"

Also this morning

It is just that few people actually read the article.

Why try and twist peoples understanding of the article?

nobody cares if its past tense or not; he requested a trade, end of story.

nowhere in the article does it say that Mikhayev is okay with not being traded; so your jostling words around to try and make it seem like he backed off of his trade request after finding out he got offered more ice time, is weird

He requested a trade at one point and hasnt commented on it (nor his agent) since. Its a problem for the Leafs no matter how you put it

No, you hope it's a problem for the Leafs*.

He requested a trade behind closed doors, based on usage, and was not accommodated. If it were such an issue, he'd go public and his agent would push the envelope. Instead, he went silent after being reassured of an increased role.

He's a pending UFA. He's not going to sulk in a contract year and the Leafs have an internal replacement in Engvall if it gets to that point.

You’ve clearly never played much hockey. Pretty near any player that’s not receiving prime time minutes feels they deserve more. It’s just the way it is.

See? There you go, making stuff up

you have NO idea what he requested a trade for, absolutely none. So why pretend that you do?

I’m curious what he’s value is around the league. I think it’s defiantly something not worth wild for the leafs to move him. Probably like a 4th round draft pick.

I love how any thread involving a Leaf player on the mains turns into comedic gold about the Leafs ineptitude.

XD

Sorry but the first few pages of this thread are hilarious.

Wow this is def the start of something big… I wonder if Matthews will request his trade to Arizona next or play out his contract
Why would Arizona give up any assets for a players they are getting for free in a few yrs.

Are you dense? The article says, verbatim, “At issue appears to be role and ice-time, heading into the final year of his contract. His 14:13 per game last season was eighth among Toronto forwards.”

Nobody on this site knows anything. Deductive reasoning. You just want to doom and gloom over a 4th liner.

Out of curiosity, how many years in a row can the "better team" lose before you realize that maybe you're just grossly over estimating the team?
At least 2. They seem to be on a streak. I’ll let you know when they win one. Don’t wait for the message though, might be a while.

It makes sense to wait for his trade value to increase before moving him. Not simply because he requests it.
