Thank you for mentioning that. I thought so too.I had been under the impression that the Devils hold his rights until July 1. Did I miss something here?

I think he comes off the VRL (which is where the Devils had 'rights' to him) when he turns 35 and he did it a week ago.
Longest of shots but come to Edmonton Kovy
RNH - McDavid - X
Kovalchuk - Draisaitl - Puljujarvi
Any chance the Blues could step in and snag him? Connections with Brodeur and Tarasenko. How much gas is left in the tank? What is his contract going to look like?
Depends on the money but they might be able to on one year deal. But I'm sure all conversations start at two years deal for hi,Can Edmonton even take his cap hit, though? He will probably demand a great deal of money.

If Vancouver would kindly and honorably take their native son Milan Lucic and bring him home (with zero cap coming back), than yes it can be done.
I know it won't happen but NJ has the most short term cap space while being in a position to win the coming years.
Tavares+Kovy would have been something to see along with what they have.
To me Rangers make the most sense. In Vegas they probably don't want him.
My guess is that they turn it around in 19/20. But you’re right, not the best destination for a cup.Rangers are rebuilding, not contending, though.
