Ill-timed Stone puck dive causes Heiskanen to blow out his knee

I dunno man, real unfortunate outcome but I just don't think Stone is diving at Heiskanen's knee to injure him. He does get a little tripped up and was trying to make a play on the puck. I know this place loves to get all red in the face and babyrage screechy anytime Mark Stone's name gets mentioned but there's quite a difference in playing fool the LTIR and missile locking your helmet into a dude's knee.

Tough luck for Miro, hopefully not out too long.

I'm starting to think sports would be better off if there were no cameras at all, just radio/audio streaming. Would do away with 100% of the dumbass debates about player intention/offsides, disallowed goals etc etc etc.

Hockey is a dirty game. People have been saying it will get more dirty since they put the fight instigator rule in - and they were right.

No. People just lack nuance nowadays. Stone and his team play dirty with the LTIR rules therefore Stone is a dirty player.

It's tricky. Back then being dirty was a more acceptable way of playing physical so even if the cheap shots were probably worse, more egregious and did more damage, they weren't seen as dirty like they are today.

Yeah that's fair enough. Just off the top of my head I can picture Messier elbowing players with impunity, Hextall 2 handing players who came through his crease, and Dale Hunter taking out......Turgeon? Muller? well after he had finished scoring a goal. And that's just majorly egregious things. Doesn't even begin to get into all the little things that were just 'normal' parts of the game back then that would be criticized now.

Regardless, I think its foolish to say that if we didnt have the instigator rule we'd have less of those things, as we had plenty of them back before the instigator rule when every single team had an enforcer and plenty more regular players were willing to drop the gloves and stand up for themselves.

Yes, it's less acceptable now, but it also happens significantly less than it did.

I agree he's lunging at the puck but it's the sort of thing where it's a risky and dangerous play. There are lots of times where you can go after the puck but it puts others at chance of injury. Of course any play presents some kind of risk of injury but some are more so than others and the likelihood of Stone making a good play on the puck there is very low.

I'm sure there are a few reasons why Mr. LTIR himself has irked fans around the league over the years.

But yeah, that shot of him giggling on the bench after the play last night? Not going to sit well with too many Stars fans, I reckon.

He probably wasn't, but still, it was funny. The slow upturning of the lips into an evil grin. It looked comically villainous (I'm not saying anything about him, just the visual was amusing).

Ya… I’m gonna fault him. It was a reckless play where the chance of injuring the player is a lot higher because you’re doing a superman dive around their knees

He was flopping trying to get a penalty for hintz tapping his skate(you can tell the tap didn't cause him to fall, he fell on his own after that had already happened)

I guess I should have worded it differently. I don't feel it is dirtier today, but I certainly feel that there are some elements of the game that are dirtier, based largely on the fact that players aren't expected to answer the bell if they do something dirty, so there is less deterrent. Maybe we just see it more because the dirty plays are deemed so much worse now than they were then.
