Swedish TV: From a couple of articles, ~1.500.000 (peak) against Russia and the Czechs. Just under 2.000.000 (peak) for the quarterfinal game. Around 1.000.000 (peak) for the other Sweden games.

All games were on national TV. Not so sure those numbers are good.

The article on Finnish media mentioned that they were higher numbers than with the previous rights holder.

It's a lot of people, but on the other hand, I feel like the vast majority of Slovak fans only care about hockey during the WC.

There are worse leagues with better attendance than the Slovak league.

What the fans need more are better rinks that are comfortable to be at than what we have right now. Back when the u20 team played in Bratislava I used to go to their games and if I had kids I am not sure I would bring them regularly to the rink on Ruzinov where they asses would freeze off on the old uncomfortable wooden benches.

Also less teams like Detva.

And a better media presence even with the improvements that have happened in the past few seasons, IHWC is part of national tradition while going to league games is unfortunately not. When IHWC comes around, you get bombarded with the information about games from all sides, when it comes to league games, you have to look them up yourself in most places.

I really hope Slovakia starts producing elite talent again. It's a good sign that those tournaments are very popular still, influences many kids to start playing.

I think IIHF WC ratings are far better than Stanley cup final, when you consider the ratings from all countries. Which is expected, as you can't really compare national league and international tournaments..

However, it makes you bit sad when one realize how bad TV ratings are compared to some other sports (e.g. football, handball, basketball).

Don't forget about Canada (NBC is for the US); here's some Canadian numbers from the 2018 playoffs The Stanley Cup Playoffs, by the numbers (Leafs/Bruins averaged 4.18 million viewers; the SCF averaged 2.7 million viewers). You can't really compare the two like that though. A ton of WC games are played during working hours so that brings down the average a lot.
