This seems like it has potential but it’s already having problems with the women’s worlds which was it’s so called kick off tournament for this new service. I hope it’s all figured out soon enough so that more tournaments can be viewed by a broader audience.

I’m sure that’s why they tested it on the women’s tournament. Less eyes than U18 or Worlds

They should upload all games from previous WCs going all the way back to the 70s. Would be fun with a major retro full games Archive.
I agree, I believe one of the problems people are running into so far is the local broadcasting rights blocking games from being viewed. It will be interesting to see how iihf handles this if they want to build a long term sustainable platform for streaming.

Yeah, why not charge us few that actually watch the lower division hockey...
Yeah gotta be honest, don't really like this. I don't know what was wrong with streaming the games on Youtube, and you'll likely end up with less viewership on any of the games outside of the elite division. Just don't see any reason other than greed to do this.

I agree to a certain extent, however the top division games are not broadcasted for free on YouTube. For example, TSN and the NHL network hold the rights for the U18 broadcasting in Canada and the USA. The selection of games they are actually broadcasting themselves is very limited. These other games are not streamed on YouTube by IIHF.

In the case of the elite division sure, but they already broadcasted the WC on YouTube (up to and including elite division) in previous years, so why not just do that for U18 and U20? I'd imagine TSN or someone holds the broadcast rights for those as well, but they streamed them with no problem.

Ultimately the 10 bucks or whatever it'll cost me to stream D1A U18 this year isn't a big deal, just silly in my eyes for them to do this when they were streaming for free for multiple years.

Yeah, but people following 1A level are exactly the same weirdos that want to watch most of the tiers below that too. It simply adds up quickly.

It's currently 6 euros per tournament. That means less than 20 for U18 D1A/B and D2A. While I don't like idea of paying it, it's not that much for 45 games. :)

So this is being geo-locked to absolute hell. What a brutal job by iihf here. You are basically shit out of luck to watch any games that aren’t being directly streamed by the lead broadcaster in ur region. Based on social media, people in the USA are geo locked from buying the package for the U18’s. Even though NHL network isn't even broadcasting all the games.:biglaugh:

It's dumb. I wanted to see if I could use it to watch the women's world championships, but in my country they're only showing the USA games on NHL Network. Probably the gold medal game too (which the USA will inevitably be in barring a big upset). Because of the geo blocking that means I can't access any of the other games.

They pull the same thing for the men's world championships too. Usually USA games only, and on NHL Network. If you want to watch any of the other games you're on your own.
