It's unrealistic to think of a trade involving Sherterkin's contract.

Anything of positive value would be too much to pay, and anything of negative value wou be too little to receive.

In terms of player movement, that contract is an immovable object.

It is standard business for a player who receives a NMC on their extension to have one retroactively added to the final year of their current contract. The exception being if that final year is an RFA year that is not eligible.

It is very likely that he has a NMC on his current contract.

Cory Schneider is really the only one in recent times.

9th overall that was used to pick Horvat.
Bobrovsky?

It’s not an easy compatible to anyone tbh.
Shesty is to 3-5 at his position every year, with any/every year he can’t be the best goalie in the game. He’ll likely be that way for the next 4-5 years, maybe a bit longer.
NYR have been spoiled going from Hank right to shesty.
Between the pipes, we’ve been blessed for many seasons now and it’s not been an issue, but excellent goal tending has become the norm/expected every game. Most teams can’t say or expect that from the goalies.
Hank didn’t see a decline is athleticism or skill until age 34, that’s my bench mark, I’d wager shesty is amazing til 34-35. He’s the better athlete, never really had a heavy workload in the KHL, didn’t become a NHL starter until 23-24…..
The miles are low on this model sports car ……lol..
I don’t think he’s overpaid for what he brings. With a solid team in front of him, he can steal games on any given night and has proven he can win big playoff games/series and play in NY……
Some guys just can’t hack it here for whatever reason but are good elsewhere.
He thrives on the big stage/spotlight.
You can argue the length of the deal is too long, but almost every deal guys sign now when they sign their( forever/last major ) is. Whether it be RFA/UFA whatever.
Can you imagine him playing in front of a team like EDM or Col etc?
A team that can score at will and play a competent D scheme???
They can go back to back or for 3 cups in a row, which is unheard of nowadays.

Bobrovsky wasn't traded once he was an established goalie.

Rinse. Repeat.

Rangers fans make stupid threads in the trade boards the last month.

We aren't trading him. Control your emotions. The amount of Rangers fans who are blaming him, when he's been arguably our best player this season getting hung out to dry game after game by a bunch of skaters who've completely quit, is ridiculous. How dare a team try to sign one of their superstars. Just insane some people believe the way to be good is to eliminate all that is good.

He's like the least of our problems.

I don’t know the thinking of the OP, and I know that he won’t be moved, but personally my attitude before the extension was that he should be moved, not because he’s been bad or is a problem, but because we kinda should be entering a rebuild. The whole roster quit on the organization. Not just the coach or GM, but the entire org. Whether or not talent wise a rebuild is needed, the toxicity and dysfunction runs so deeply now that we probably need to clean house. If that’s the case, having a Vezina goalie winning you games you shouldn’t win doesn’t actually help your rebuild and just keeps you on the bubble so that you’re stuck in mediocrity.

So strictly from that vantage point, an argument could have been made for flipping him at 50% at the TDL to a contender, bottoming out hard for 2-3 years but stocking up rapidly between higher draft picks (will always draft like 5-10 spots worse with Shesty in net) and the return you would get by moving out guys like Shesterkin or Panarin. Obviously, now that he’s been extended, the odds of that being entertained are astronomically low.

This post really sucks. No one is saying he's bad at hockey. We're all saying he's not worth anywhere near his cap hit.

At that price, you have to win games on your own. Hes consistently proven he can't do that
