If the cap goes up to the rumored amount in short order ($95+), then I'm absolutely re-signing him to 11-12.

People keep pointing out winning with average goaltending but this team has been reliant on goaltending since the 2005 lockout which is a MAJOR culture change for this team. I don't suddenly expect them to become like the 2010 Blackhawks just because we've reallocated his cap hit to filling out the roster, which is not something I trust Drury to do considering this teams 5v5 and defensive woes.

The bottom will drop out real quick without Igor there, and don't expect another rebuild via blowing up the core either cause we all know that ain't happening either. You'll get a retool with Igor.
11-12 is still way too much for a goalie

Sign and trade with a western conference team. His talent is not the issue, its the goalie position in the modern game. You dont need a Roy, Brodeur, Belfour to win the cup anymore. And you dont need to handcuff your salary cap with another bloated contract that will last well into their 30s.

The team won’t win a thing with or without Igor making north of $10m a year, I’d much prefer to see where the “without” path takes us since we have a pretty solid understanding of where the “with” path takes us.
Agreed. I've flip-flopped this season from 1) don't pay Igor anything north of $10m, to 2) give Igor a blank check, to 3) NYR can't hamstring themselves with that contract. Toward the start of the season I was all for seeing this team without godlike goaltending for once in the last ~20 years to see how the rest of the team's construction would happen. I'm starting to come back around to that stance.

I'm 100% sure if Igor doesn't pan out in wanting to sign or we don't pay him, if we don't fix the core issue with this team (the offensive and defensive systems), then we become the Giants of NY hockey.

I can see him going to a better team and him winning a cup because they would be able to withstanding a guaranteed softy a game.

I swear it feels like I'm living in the world of the onion when there are people who nitpick the goals he gives up because he happens to be on a team that's second to dead last with the average number of shots they give up, which is unsustainable for any NHL goalie. You guys hate him for his "softies" and will cheer when he's gone, then complain more when we get a goalie that's worse than him.

LMAO. It's like you're championing for your own demise.

A goalie worth 12 million dollars doesn't single handedly lose a game the Rangers needed to have last night. Last straw with this guy. Instead of being a leader and rising to the occasion this bum single handedly lost us the game.
