Things area bit slow here; I thought this might be of interest. Shesterkin was obviously drafted by the Rangers, but this is the road as to how the NYR got the pick that they used to select him. Also involves current NYR goalie Jaroslav Halak. Safe to say, that trade between BUF/WSH benefited the Rangers more than anyone. Video by Steve Dangle of Sportsnet:

Igor Shestyorkin, Robin Kovacs, Ryan Mantha, Brad Morrison and Ryder Korczak. 4 of those names I did not expect to see.

This reminds of the 2012 Rick Nash trade tree that includes Artemiy Panarin, Tyler Motte, Morgan Barron, Eric Ciccolini, Adam McQuaid, Tyler Wall, Hunter Skinner, K'Andre Miller, Ryan Strome and Ryan Lindgren.

Aka the greatest trade of all time (Nasher to BOS).

Brass for Zib is a close second.

And Gorts got fired for mishandling Tony d, McD & Miller?

Seems like a wash or even we kinda won at the end of the day.

Makes no sense Gorts got fired.

Brass for zib is actually slightly related to the nash to nyr and thus the nash to bos trade tree.

Gorton was fired for putting out a p***y team that required Panarin, Buch, and Strome to seek 'payback' for Tom Wilson, and for keeping teamwide expectations too low for Dolan's liking.

Gorton's firing at the time made no sense; the Panarin/Wilson incident was likely the turning point for an impatient/nutty owner who knows nothing about hockey.

I do agree that they needed more of a physical presence/deterrent to help protect the kids and the skill players (Panarin/Zibanejad, etc.). The only element of that they had was out of that game with injuries.

I wasn't looking for that video, I just happened to come across it! I had forgotten about Brad Morrison and Ryan Mantha; I have no idea where they are playing now. It was unfortunate Kovacs career was derailed (mostly of his only doing). Hopefully, Korczak develops into something, a useful bottom 6 forward.

Martin concussing Trouba and making him look like post- road runner accident Wile E. Coyote was the icing on the cake. That Wilson game never happens if Trouba was in.

Not Gorts fault, we weren't as weak as we seemed. All the injuries led to that.

Whatever, thank gawd Drury is a great GM (so far).

How would Trouba have prevented the Wilson incident?

You don't know if he would have been on the ice and players like Wilson don't think twice about players like Trouba.

I'm saying that bread and Buch would have had less of a reason to get as involved as they did. At least one less reason. It was all such a f*ckin' mess. I'm happy where we're at, Drury did a great job making sure that never happens again. Isles games last year were night and day and so were caps games.

OP posts a very interesting recap of a trade, DeAngelo gets mentioned two responses in, and then people start arguing about Tom Wilson. This is certainly a Rangers board thread.
Guilty as charged, Don't forget Dolan being a crappy owner as well. We successfully hit all the bullet points with this one.

We are now officially ready to argue rookie/tryouts jersey numbers for next season.

Dolan's about the most hands-off/non-meddling owner aside from that letter to the DoPS/firing Gorton+JD and in 2014 or whatever when he said NYR would win the Cup that year. Other than that you never hear about him interfering with hockey operations and he just throws money at the team.

Not sure what else would really make him a crappy owner, and neither of those things are even really as bad now as they seemed at the time. According to your other post, it was Gorton's fault for putting together a "p***y" team so wouldn't you regard his firing as a positive?

I was quoting MH saying that’s a bullet point discussed here on HFNYR all the time, similar to the other topics he raised. I think Dolan is a good owner and was right to step in, and our playoff run last year is a testament to that. The team wasn’t being built right and Gorton and JD weren’t holding the team and administration accountable for poor play.

Even with the Knicks, Dolan tried to step away a few times and hired ‘good basketball’ ppl to take over and it blew up even worse in his face. It’s a meme that he’s a bad owner, but I disagree with that.

With the Knicks, Dolan hired the wrong people. He went after big names, but it never worked out well. Phil Jackson had no player personnel experience despite being a Hall of Fame coach (plus he only viewed the VP Basketball Operations position as a part time job, which didn't help). Isiah Thomas had issues as a coach (and in front office "communications"), but he can draft very well; he could identify NCAA talent.

With the Rangers, he's hired the right people and left them alone (for the most part). I didn't agree with the Gorton/JD firing, but so far the move has the team in a better position with Drury (though have NOT liked some of his moves; I won't go over that).

It's bizarre that the Caps had Walker in their development camp and had also previously passed on drafting him only to eventually trade the 2 picks to move up and select him. They could've kept the picks and taken him in the later rounds, Washington had some goalies in the system so I don't think they would have drafted Shesty. Rangers ended up with a pretty good goalie while the Caps got the highest scoring Australian born player so I guess it was a win-win deal.
